This paper highlights the background and purpose of pay from the economic perspective as well as issues and concerns encountered by organizations when implementing the PRP (Performance-Related-Pay) scheme. Amongst the issues and concerns of implementing a PRP scheme, active participation of employees, a fair employees performance appraisal system and a constructive communication channel are some of the important criteria to be considered for an effective PRP scheme. / The paper also describes the advantages and disadvantages of PRP schemes for the consideration of readers. The research showed that the advantages of implementing a PRP scheme include productivity improvement and increases in employees motivation level. The disadvantages of such a scheme would be undue emphasis on individual performance and additional workload for the management. / It describes a competency model which may be replicated by organizations during the implementation of a PRP scheme. / Trade union leaders expressed their frustrations in terms of unwillingness of the employers to disclose financial information and the lack of fair and effective employees performance appraisal systems.This paper also includes PRP related cases established by the Malaysian Industrial Courts for the information of the readers. This paper does not provide any methodology for implementing PRP schemes. Scientific Researchers: Are Religious Believers Seen as Being Less Scientific?

abstract: This study investigated whether research by researchers affiliated with a religious academic institution would be seen as of less scientific merit than research done by researchers affiliated with a nonreligious academic institution. Such a bias may exist given the different value systems underlying religion and science, the widespread perception of a conflict between religion and science, and research on differences in cognitive styles and stereotypes about religious versus nonreligious people. In this study, U.S. participants recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk completed an online survey, which included an abstract of an article describing scientific research with authors’ names and academic institutions, and questions on perceived scientific merit, religiosity, spirituality, religion as Quest, and perceived conflict between religion and science. There was a significant difference in the perceived merit of the researchers, with the group believing the researchers were affiliated with a religious academic institution rating the research as lower in scientific merit than the group believing the researchers were affiliated with a nonreligious academic institution. The perceived level of conflict between religion and science was found to moderate the relationship, such that higher levels of perceived conflict between religion and science showed a greater difference in scientific merit between groups. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Psychology 2018

A Procedure for Developing a Carcass Merit Program for the Pork Industry

A stratified sample of 420 market hogs representing the seven 10- pound incremental carcass weight classes from 140 lbs. to 210 lbs. , and the nine last rib back fat classes from less than .8 inches to 1.5 inches, or greater, within each weight class were analyzed to determine carcass value and yield of wholesale cuts. Simple correlation coefficients were calculated between each of the carcass measurements. The carcass yield data were manipulated by multiple regression procedures to achieve a series of equations for predicting the weights of the primal cuts. The benefits of being able to predict the weights of the primal cuts were discussed. A procedure for developing a premium/discount matrix was explained . The fo rmulae for developing the matrix were explained. The necessary assumptions were also explored. A procedure for evaluating a premium/discount matrix was developed. The impact of an industry-wide carcass merit program was discussed.
