Material Properties from Miniature Punch Test and Finite Element Analysis

Dai, Daniel 03 1900 (has links)
The Punch test provides a technique for the determination of material properties from small specimens. Using the rectangular specimen, the test can be used to control the orientation of the cracking plane which was not possible in the ball punch on a circular disk design. A three dimensional quarter finite element model was formulated to simulate the punch test for 150°C and 300°C tests performed on So8 steel. The comparison of predicted and measured load-deflection and stress-strain curves showed good agreement between FE model and tests. A user interface, which allows for routine application, with the necessary postprocessing capabilities was developed and tested for the purpose of simulating miniature punch tests and estimating stress-strain data from measured load curves. / Thesis / Master of Applied Science (MASc)

A Catalog of Miniature Case and Seating Furniture Categorized as Being of the Second Size Which are Owned by Five Museums and Historical Societies of Texas and Louisiana

Parsons, Robert Alan 08 1900 (has links)
The miniature furniture cataloged is considered to be of the second size, i.e., miniatures which could have been used as traveler's samples, cabinetmaker's models, or toys. The entries are selected from collections of Louisiana and Texas museums and historical societies. They were located through use of a questionnaire sent to the institutions listed in the Official Museum Directory as having furniture and decorative arts collections. Responses showed five institutions owning miniatures of the second size, as follows: Louisiana State Museum, New Orleans; Anglo-American Art Museum, Baton Rouge; Harris County Heritage Society, Houston; Witte Memorial Museum, San Antonio; and Dallas Historical Society.

MEASUREMENT OF IN-FLIGHT MOTION CHARACTERISTICS OF A HIGH-G LAUNCHED FLARESTABILIZED PROJECTILE WITH ON-BOARD TELEMETRY

Brown, T. Gordon, Bukowski, Ed, Ilg, Mark, Brandon, Fred 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2007 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Third Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2007 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / In pursuit to understanding the flight behavior and characterizing the stability of a flarestabilized projectile, an experiment was conducted to assess the robustness of an inertial sensor suite the size of a dime (17.5mm) by integrating to a telemetry system for recording. The system had to survive launch acceleration exceeding 25,000G’s. This is the beginning of an effort to reduce the size of telemetry systems and diagnostic devices for use in medium caliber munitions and smaller. A description of the telemetry system and subsystem will be presented along with the results.

SQUIRT: The Prototypical Mobile Robot for Autonomous Graduate Students

Flynn, Anita M., Brooks, Rodney A., Wells, William M., III, Barrett, David S. 01 July 1989 (has links)
This paper describes an exercise in building a complete robot aimed at being as small as possible but using off-the-shelf components exclusively. The result is an autonomous mobile robot slightly larger than one cubic inch which incorporates sensing, actuation, onboard computation, and onboard power supplies. Nicknamed Squirt, this robot acts as a 'bug', hiding in dark corners and venturing out in the direction of last heard noises, only moving after the noises are long gone.
