A Research on Web-based Learning¡ÐAn Analysis of AJET Program In Kaohsiung Girls¡¦High School

The purposes of this study are: 1.To investigate the effect of web-based English Learning on English teaching 2.To understand the results of practicing the AJET¡¦ Project¡]Advanced Joint English Telecommunication¡^ in Kaohsiung Girls' High School 3.To understand the expectations of the teachers, students and students' parents in the activities of the AJET Project, and 4.To find out the problems in implementing the AJET Project and the ways to solve them. The samples for this study are drawn from the teachers, students and students' parents taking part in the AJET Project in Kaohsiung Girls' High School from 1997.10 to 2002.6. Through careful observations and interviews, the conclusions of this study are as follows: 1.The AJET Project is of much help for the students in learning English because the Project facilitates them to share the living experiences and learning effects with the students of other schools at home and abroad. 2.The students taking part in the AJET Project get many excellent results in the contests held internationally and in the papers contributed to international journals. 3.The teachers participating in the AJET Project also have won the prizes for superb computer application and web-based learning. Despite the the exciting results, there are still many difficulties, such as the program scheduling and the organization of the student participants of the AJET. The teachers of the AJET cannot take part in the Project full time because of being busy in their other routine work and the teaching resources provided by the school are limited. The participant students are divided into so many small learning groups that they cannot be taken good care of. Therefore they have to cooperate with their counterparts of other schools. The students have to spend so much of their time on the regular tests of other subjects that they cannot help themselves from neglecting the AJET. Many students have wrong conceptions of the AJET target. As a result, many students do not devote themselves earnestly to all the activities of the AJET and in the long run some students even abandon the project. The targets of the AJET are not only for students to learn English for the traditional purposes but also to introduce the technique, logic thinking and algorithm of the computer and to train students' leadership. In view of the problems mentioned above, in this study some suggestions are made in the hope that they will be of help for the authorities concerned and all the participants (teachers, students and students' parents) of the AJET.

Study on the Relationship among Entrepreneurship, Learning Strategy and Performance in Mission-based Learning

The aim of this thesis is to explore a brand new learning activity named Mission-based Learning (MBL), which is based on the Complex Problem Learning. Two research objectives are to develop the designing principles for MBL and to analyze the relationship among entrepreneurship, learning strategy and performance while learners participating Mission-based learning activities in groups. According to the concept of ARCS model proposed by Keller, we developed six designing principles for MBL activities; they are (1) Commitment (2) Risk-taking (3) Persistence (4) Positive Self-talk (5) Self-reflection and (6)_ Self-improvement. According to the designing principles we developed, we designed and conducted two real MBL activities, ¡§Searching and Backtracking of Chinese Family Names¡¨ and ¡§Unified Invoice¡¨ using the K12 digital school (http://ds.k12.edu.tw/). We adopted all the student groups that participated MBL activities from the beginning to the end as valid samples. Then we took the whole participated groups as valid samples and analyzed their narratives by content analysis. We explored the relationship among entrepreneurship, learning strategy and performance for groups participating in Mission-based learning activities. Our study has found that the participated groups with competitive aggressiveness would favore adopting action control as learning strategy in doing the two MBL activities. We also found that the participated groups with higher competitive aggressiveness would have a higher performance in two MBL activities. Moreover, we found that the relationship between learning strategy and performance would be affected by different orientations of MBL activities. The participated groups with good adaptation of information-processing strategy will show a higher performance in knowledge-deep oriented MBL activities. And the participated groups with good adaptation of action control strategy will show a higher performance in knowledge-wide oriented MBL activities. To effectively applying MBL activity, some suggestions are provided for teachers. (1) Participating groups should be well-informed the meaning and spirit of MBL activities before their participation. (2) All groups should be working independently and autonomously by minimizing teacher¡¦s intervention. (3) In order to strengthen the action control strategies of participated groups, adequate psychological scaffolding should be provided by teachers during groups participated in MBL.

Factors Affecting Students¡¦ Failure Response in Participating Mission Based Learning

Abstract Internet and information technology have changed our daily life extremely. Information technology affects not only the way people running the business but also their expectation to learning and education. All this external shift and new requirement have become the driving force of e-learning. Mission Based Learning (MBL), which proposed by pedagogical experts, are a new learning model to address the new learning pattern of e-learning. MBL would like students to be trained as entrepreneur, with entrepreneurship, willing to take risk and can learning from failure experience. Thus, MBL activity increases the difficulty of the learning tasks in order to motivate students¡¦ potential and hope that students can use innovative strategy to overcome the mission. However, this may causes students to fail in the learning activity easily. Therefore, understanding students¡¦ failure response is the key point to teach students learning from failure experience. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting students¡¦ failure response in participating MBL. The study depends on prior-research and uses questionnaires to collect data. A total of 252 students attending the MBL activity are the research subjects. The collected data is processed and analyzed with SPSS for Windows 10.0. The main findings show that students¡¦ failure tolerance, failure attribution and perceived goal structure will significantly affect students¡¦ constructive failure response. Furthermore, students¡¦ age will not affect students¡¦ failure tolerance, self-concept and failure response. Students¡¦ perceived goal structure will affect their failure tolerance and failure response in MBL activity. This research also finds that failure attribution will significantly affect students¡¦ failure tolerance, self-concept and failure response. Finally, according to the research result, this thesis proposed conclusions and suggestions for the educators and the follow-up.
