ENHANCING PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS' KNOWLEDGE OF FRACTIONS THROUGH THE MODEL METHOD

Byun, Miran 01 May 2015 (has links)
This study examined the effects of the (Singapore) Model Method on elementary pre-service teachers' understanding fractions and attitudes toward teaching and learning mathematics. In particular, this study focused on fraction operation concepts in solving word problems. The study involved thirty-four elementary pre-service teachers enrolled in two sections of mathematics content and methods courses in the Teacher Education Program in a Midwestern public university. This study used quantitative data from an experimental design using an instructional intervention (Model Method). The instruments for data collection included a demographic questionnaire, mathematics attitude survey, fraction computation test, and fraction word problem test. To attain additional information for the instructional intervention and to verify the findings of the quantitative data, open- ended interviews were conducted. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, including MANOVA, ANCOVA and correlation analysis. The treatment group received six intensive lessons to learn fraction operation from word problems with a focus on the Model Method while the control group had traditional lessons with the same topics and materials. The findings show that using the Model Method in teaching fraction operation concepts helps the pre-service teachers to improve their conceptual understanding in solving word problems. After the Model Method instruction, an attitude survey and interviews were used and indicated that the experimental group had more positive attitudes and increased confidence and liking toward teaching and learning mathematics than the control group. Furthermore, the correlation analysis shows that the correlation between the pre-service teachers' fraction knowledge in solving word problems and computational problems was strong. This result indicates that higher conceptual knowledge can predict a higher level of procedural knowledge in fraction operations. The findings suggest that the Model Method is an effective teaching method to enhance students' fractional knowledge in learning problem-solving.

Návrh změny podnikového procesu / Proposal for Change in the Company Process

Nováková, Johana January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with problems of process management in a field of savings identification with the goal of an analysis of a chosen process and creation of a proposal for current status improvement from a point of effectivity. It describes process management, process modeling and improvement and project management. Further it presents a current status of the process, project logic frame, net analyzis and risk identification. Finally it shows a map of future proces with an identification of weak points and suggestions for improvement for an organization to improve state of the field of savings identification.

Realizace dopravní výchovy na 1. stupni ZŠ / Realization of Traffic Education in Primary School

Kadavá, Markéta January 2014 (has links)
To follow, the focus of this diploma thesis is how traffic education can be properly incorporated into the first stage of our primary school curriculum and the different possibilities how the whole subject should be taught. Theoretical part deals with traffic education as part of education and also defines the term - traffic education, the meaning and the aim of traffic education area all together with short view into traffic education concept and comparision to abroad. In this part you can also find overview of implementation and content of outputs for each grade at the first stage of primary school together with various materials which can be used in traffic education. There is prepared short functional model of traffic education lesson for each grade in accordance with RVP (framework education program) in research part. These lessons has been tried out. An important aspect of teaching model is that there is no need of speacial material and it is not time consuming. Teaching model is also commented by several teachers from various cities, types of schools and different lenth of teaching practise and supplemented by possible conection with other subjects or cross-cutting themes. Key words: traffic education, trafic safety, traffic risks, utility, educational program, model, primary school

Analysis And Design Of A Circularly Polarized Microstrip Antenna

Tastan, Mehmet 01 September 2005 (has links) (PDF)
In this study we tried to design a microstrip antenna, to get a suitable radiation pattern for a LEO satellite. Our aim is to get a radiation pattern that has a maximum power which is not in the broadside direction to the antenna surface / instead broadside radiation has a relatively lower power density. Maximum power radiation is desired to be at about 30 &ndash / 50 degrees angle beyond the normal to the antenna surface. We desire circularly polarized radiation. We used two concentric antennas / one is a circular patch at the center and the other is an annular ring which is used at the outer region. By using Ansoft Ensemble 8.0 software, we design an antenna which has a resonance frequency at 8.2 GHz. Using the result of the program we design the real antenna. The measurement results are compared with the simulation results.

Mechanické vlastnosti mořských sedimentů v okolí přístavu Koper a numerické modelování hluboké základové jámy / Mechanical properties of marine sediment near Koper and numerical modelling of a deep excavation

Tůma, Pavel January 2010 (has links)
Mechanical properties of marine sediment near Koper and numerical modelling of a deep excavation Engineering geological conditions near the port Koper in southwestern Slovenia forces geotechnical experts and civil engineers to solve problems in foundation various types of objects and purpose of the practice since the fifties of last century, when it began an intensive development of infrastructure of the port. The results of series of geological and geotechnical surveys, monitoring, and long experience with foundation in the local geology shows that it is almost always the 3rd geotechnical category, or foundation of complex structures in difficult geological conditions below the water table. The entire area belongs to Alpine-Dinaric tectonic area. The rock foundation is composed of complexes of flysch sediments Eocene age at which mounted files of recent marine sediments in the area widely submerged river valley fluvial sands and gravels. From the geotechnical point of view it is interesting site, where most buildings were based on a layer of soft marine sediments, where it is through the creation of special methods implemented in the establishment of deep-level endurable layers of gravel and sand of the river Rižana or at the level footingwall flysch. Set of marine sediments near the port Koper,...
