Starts introducing guidelines and development choices and is organized in three chapters: the first one is of thematic introductory character, presenting facts, data and essential concepts for a better understanding of the context in which the investigated be inserted, as well as, of the generalized difficulties on count of the racism that reached him and to other “colored men” of his time. The second chapter is biographical, consolidating information registered in works of third ones on the period previous to his presence in the Amazon in the XIX where acted like Public prosecutor in 1892, and his subsequent trajectory in the federal capital, when they were added of information that still had not been systematized, obtained from primary sources relative to the period before and in which it was in the Amazon in that period, his long visit as Federal Deputy in 1910 and the subsequent acting on behalf of the State. The third chapter brings an analysis on his positions and strategies of social mobility, besides on his historical legate and historiography, followed by our conclusions. / O presente trabalho visa a partir da narrativa e análise sobre a figura histórica de Manoel da Motta Monteiro Lopes, o primeiro deputado federal negro assumido e com discurso afirmativo do Brasil, utilizando incidentalmente de outras trajetórias e questões relacionadas, problematizar a mobilidade social negra, com concentração no recorte declarado, as duas primeiras décadas da República. O mesmo possui uma introdução apresentando as linhas balizadoras e está organizado em três capítulos: o primeiro é de caráter introdutório temático, apresenta além de fatos, dados e conceitos preliminares essenciais para uma melhor compreensão do contexto em que se inseriu o pesquisado, bem como, das vicissitudes generalizadas por conta do racismo que lhe atingiu e a outros “homens de cor” de seu tempo. O segundo capítulo é biográfico, consolidando informações apuradas em trabalhos de terceiros sobre o período anterior e relativo à sua presença no Amazonas no XIX aonde atuou em 1892 como Promotor Público e sua posterior trajetória na capital federal, acrescidas de informações que ainda não haviam sido sistematizadas e obtidas a partir de fontes primárias relativas ao citado período, de sua alongada visita como Deputado Federal em 1910 e a posterior atuação em prol do Estado. O terceiro capítulo traz uma análise sobre seus posicionamentos e estratégias de mobilidade social e ainda sobre o seu legado histórico e historiografia, seguido das nossas conclusões.
