TECHNOLOGY CONVERGENCE: OBSERVATIONS ON TRANSITIONAL APPROACHES FOR DATA ACQUISITION IN A TCP/IP ENVIRONMENT

Weir, Malcolm 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2007 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Third Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2007 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper discusses how IRIG 106 Chapter 10 recording techniques could be employed in a network-centric environment, while maintaining as many of the strengths of the traditional approach. In the course of that discussion, aspects of the published standard which would have to be disregarded or reinterpreted for a network-centric approach to be adopted are illustrated.

An Open Architecture Approach to Networked Telemetry System

Woolridge, Daniel 'Shane' 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / When designing data transport systems, Telemetry and Communications engineers always face the risk that their chosen hardware will not be available or supported soon after the hardware has been installed. The best way to reduce this risk and ensure the longevity of the system is to select an open architecture standard that is supported by multiple manufacturers. This open architecture should also have the ability to be easily upgraded and provide for all of the features and flexibility that are required to be a reliable carrier-grade edge-device. The PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG) developed the MicroTCA open standard to address the specific needs of these Communications and Network System Engineers. This paper describes the MicroTCA architecture and how it can be applied as the ideal edge-device solution for Networked Telemetry Systems applications.

MULTIPLEXER / DEMULTIPLEXER IMPLEMENTATION USING A CCSDS FORMAT

Grebe, David L. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 27-30, 1997 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / A multiplexer / demultiplexer design suitable to a wide range of input data types and link formats is presented. Based on the Consultative Committee on Space Data Systems (CCSDS) recommendations for Packet Telemetry, the design translates the prescribed layered architecture into a modular, layered hardware implementation. The design approach minimizes hardware yielding increased reliability and decreased product cost while retaining a high degree of flexibility. This implementation can be applied to flight data acquisition (direct transmission to the ground or recorded), ground data collection (including multi-stream record systems) and inter-range communications. The use of an internationally recognized standard promotes inter-service interoperability and facilitates data handling/routing throughout a wide community.

Measurement of Telemetry Signal Delays Caused by the Use of Asynchronous Multiplexers/Demultiplexers

Law, Eugene L. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / This paper will describe a test technique developed to measure the delays caused by the use of asynchronous multiplexers/demultiplexers. These devices are used for both signal transmission (microwave and fiber optic) and signal recording (especially helical scan digital recorders). The test technique involves the generation and decoding of asynchronous telemetry signals. The bit rates of the telemetry signals are variable. Relative time is embedded in the telemetry signal as a 32-bit data word. The paper will also present measured delays for two multiplexers/demultiplexers for different combinations of bit rates.

Effective design of multiplexing network for applications in communications satellites

Li, ShuQi 01 July 2011 (has links)
Microwave multiplexing networks are widely used in satellite communication systems. Their performances, such as the insertion loss and rejection between channels, are extremely critical. This research aims at effective design of multiplexing networks for applications in communication satellites exploring different design methodologies. First, the enhanced type of multiplexer has been proven to be able to significantly improve its performances by forming an extra pole in the pass-band of each channel using the existing manifold. For completeness of the design methodology, the design of the enhanced type of multiplexers with H-plane T-junctions is investigated in this thesis. Design equations are given. By changing the distance between the channel filters and the distance between manifold waveguide and channel filter, the resonances and the magnitude of coupling can be readily controlled to satisfy the design requirement. Examples are used to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the new design using H-plane T-junctions. Secondly, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is applied in the spurious mode compensation in the multiplexer design. Channel filter tuning, circuit model simplification, and neural network training processes are detailed in the thesis. Space-Mapping optimization technology has been applied in the tuning of a channel filter. The artificial neural network is applied as the method to compensate disadvantages of both electromagnetic (EM) simulation, which is accurate but extremely time consuming, and circuit model, which is fast but with limited accuracy. The neural network model of a simplified circuit can rapidly and accurately simulate the spurious mode of a channel filter in its out-of-band. Design examples are used to demonstrate the modeling steps. Good agreements are observed between EM simulation and the results from the developed model. / UOIT

Pre-study of new electrical coupling between train cars

Wahlqvist, Emanuel January 2012 (has links)
This study is meant to be an initial study of the possibility to replace the discrete control signal wires over the electrical coupler between train cars with a data bus system. The reason for this is that the electrical coupler is large and heavy due to the high amount of contacts it contains. It is also a problem for manufacturers who are upgrading an existing fleet and need to transfer more signals through a coupler with no spare contacts to use. Except the control signals there are also Ethernet and power signals in the electrical coupler. Some trains also use a bus system for control signals and/or signals containing a large amount of data such as passenger information. This report gives a presentation of some common ways to distribute electrical signals throughout a train used by most manufacturers. It also presents some design recommendations for a system that would collect existing signals to a bus system and two different design proposals that should be considered if such a system is to be developed. The study shows that there are already systems on the market for transferringcontrol signals over a bus but they are more aimed for trains under construction. Forthis reason a new bus system would only be suitable for upgrading existing couplersto free up space in the electrical coupler unit.

COMBINING GPS AND PACKETIZED TELEMETRY CONCEPTS TO FORM A WIDE AREA DATA MULTIPLEX SYSTEM

Grebe, David L. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1999 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / As testing requirements on the ranges require ever more sophisticated cross correlation of data from multiple data acquisition sources, it becomes increasingly advantageous to collect and disseminate this information in a more network oriented fashion. This allows any of the data collected at physically separated sites to be used simultaneously at multiple mission control or data reduction centers. This paper presents an approach that maximizes the use of legacy communication paths and data reduction systems to support an evolutionary migration toward the day when testing can take full advantage of commercial communication protocols and equipment such as OC-3, ATM, etc. One key element of this approach is the packetizing of data at each reception point to provide virtual circuit switching using packet routing. Based on the newly adopted IRIG/RCC 107-98 standard, the system may even be expanded all the way back to the actual sensors. The second key element is the use of the readily available time and timing pulses based on GPS to establish a uniform sampling interval that will allow the cross correlation of data received at different points spread over a wide area.

VEHICLE NETWORK CONCEPT DEMONSTRATION

Grace, Thomas, Roach, John 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2005 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-First Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 24-27, 2005 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / CTEIP has launched the integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) project to foster advances in networking and telemetry technology to meet emerging needs of major test programs as well as within the Major Range and Test Facility Base’s. This paper describes the objective of the vNET concept demonstration to provide a test vehicle instrumentation network architecture that can support additional capabilities for data access to the test vehicle. Three specific iNET system needs have been identified as being desirable as the basis for evaluating a Concept of Operation through this demonstration project. These three key areas are Data Mining, Gapless Telemetry, and Error Free Data delivery.
