Master's thesis Henri Tomasi, André Jolivet, Eugene Bozza and their compositions for trumpet, are devoted to three important 20th century musicians. The work in the first chapter deals with the development of the french composition and trumpet school, at the beginning of this century. In addition, is about each of the three personalities in each chapter. There is always a CV with a focus on the contribution to the development of the trumpet repertoire and the analysis of one of the author's compositions.

William Shenstone was a polymath. He wrote letters, essays, composed poetry, painted water-colours, played musical instruments and indulged in architectural design, but above all he created a landscape garden at The Leasowes in the West Midlands that became a celebrated place to visit in the eighteenth century. Shenstone worked during the early days of the English landscape garden movement, and while others created grounds with political and/or historical themes he fashioned a garden in a 'naturesque' style. He created a version, called a ferme ornée that was a distinctive form of English garden at the time. This thesis is the first detailed study of The Leasowes and presents a re-evaluation of his garden. Though many people have written about the landscape in the past, few have had the opportunity to look at it from a multidisciplinary perspective which marries an exploration of archival and literary material with landscape studies and archaeological evidence. The study evaluates why and how Shenstone created his garden. It explores his cultural networks and influences and what he did to make it distinctive. It looks at the planting regime and the verse and poetry that illuminated the garden. Finally, it discovers other gardeners who were influenced by his work before and after his death.

Influenza infection remains a constant threat to human health and results in huge financial loss annually. Rapid and accurate detection of influenza can aid health officials to monitor influenza activity and take measurements when necessary. In addition, influenza detection in a timely manner can help doctors make diagnosis and provide effective treatment. Additionally, novel inhibitors of influenza virus are in high demand because circulating strains have started to develop resistance to currently available anti-viral drugs. Influenza virus has two surface glycoproteins: hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA), which play important roles in the influenza infection. The binding of HA to sialic acid-containing carbohydrates on cell surface initiates virus internalization, while cleavage of terminal sialic acid by NA facilitates viral particle release. In this dissertation, we focus on the development of a glycan microarray that is comprised of a panel of NA resistant sialosides, and demonstrate the application of the microarray to capture influenza virus at ambient temperature without the addition of NA inhibitors. We also describe a novel electrochemical assay for the detection of influenza virus. In addition, we have developed a new class of bivalent NA inhibitors that show promising inhibitory activities against influenza viruses.
