The microwave hydrothermal method (MHM) is an efficient method to obtain nanoparticles, due the fact that is kinetics of crystallization favours the formation of nanomaterials with different morphologies. This method allows to obtain nanoparticles at low syntheses temperature. In this study, the employed temperature was 100ºC with a heating rate of 10ºC/min and low shorting times offering energy cost saves and being environment friendly. The main focus of this research is to investigate the optical and photoluminsecent properties of undoped CeO2 and doped with La in the MHM. Unidimensional (1D) nanoparticles were obtained from diluted aqueous solution using salts and acids and mineralizer agents to grow these nanoparticles. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray analyses, Raman and Infra-Red spectroscopies. The morphology of nanoparticles was observed by means of field emission scanning electron microscopy. Optical properties were investigated in the UV-VIS spectroscopy region and by means of PL properties. The 1D nanoparticles were obtained in different mineralizers agent, pH, temperature and pressure, which can affect the nanoparticles morphology. By controlling the syntheses, the chemistry homogeneity, crystal structure was possible to understand the mechanism in which the CeO2 nanoparticles grows
