During this search, it was tried to acknowledge the following questions: Why are there distance education? How does it manifest? What are the results for the profession? From the understanding of the education as a social complex founded by the work, this analysis was given by bibliographic and documental search; with the proposal to learn the higher education, in the process of a capitalist way, and its relation with the work. The "contrarreforma" of education, from the incursion of the neoliberal process, in the decade of 1990 , in Brazil, brings an intense process of the higher education expansion; which was induced by programs and by actions of the latest governments and its limited relation with the internationals organisms. In this context the distance learning, manifests while the product of the process of a mass expansion of the higher education upon the market interests and the adaptation of a professional profile, adjustable with the capital's needs. Therefore, was identified that the formation/preparation of the social assistances suffers implications due to the unrestrained expansion of the college education, and with this bringing impact to Social service. Thus, throughout this study , was considered five pedagogic politics projects of the Higher education Institutions which represents a great number of educational poles in the state of Sao Paulo and also its importance to the educational market. The results shows that method of distance learning represents a significant expression in the formation of social assistances; it also reveals that the process of learning its further away from the formation supported by " Diretrizes Curriculares da ABEPSS" of 1996, and so this implying directly in the professional profile. The tendency is that, annually, the number of professionals that graduates in the distance education increase in relation of the students that attend a classroom; thus brings challenge to the profession and the definition of strategies that targeted the proximity of these professionals in the strengthening of the Project Ethic-Politic supported by the professional category / A presente dissertação de mestrado tem como objeto de estudo o Ensino a Distância (EaD) introduzido no processo de expansão da educação superior e os seus impactos no Serviço Social. No decorrer desta pesquisa, buscou-se abordar as seguintes questões: Por que existe o EaD? Como se manifesta? E quais são os seus resultados para a profissão? A partir do entendimento da educação como um complexo social fundado pelo trabalho, a análise se deu pela pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, com a proposta de apreender a educação superior, no modo de produção capitalista, e sua relação com o trabalho. A contrarreforma da educação, a partir da incursão do projeto neoliberal, na década de 1990, no Brasil, conduz a um intenso processo de expansão da educação superior, induzido pelos programas e pelas ações dos últimos governos e sua estreita relação com os organismos internacionais. Neste contexto, o EaD se manifesta enquanto um produto do processo da expansão massificada da educação superior mediante os interesses mercadológicos e a adequação de um perfil profissional ajustável às necessidades do capital. Dessa forma, identificou-se que a formação dos assistentes sociais sofre implicações da expansão desenfreada da educação superior, trazendo impactos para o Serviço Social. Assim, ao longo deste estudo, foram considerados cinco Projetos Político-Pedagógicos (PPPs) das Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) que representam maior número de polos educacionais no Estado de São Paulo e ainda a sua relevância para o mercado educacional. O resultado indica que a modalidade de EaD representa grande expressão na formação de assistentes sociais; revela ainda que o processo de ensino está distante da formação defendida pelas Diretrizes Curriculares da ABEPSS de 1996, implicando diretamente no perfil profissional. A tendência que se coloca é que, anualmente, o número de profissionais formados na modalidade a distância aumente em relação à formação presencial e traz como desafio para a profissão a definição de estratégias direcionadas à aproximação desses profissionais no fortalecimento do Projeto Ético-Político (PEP) defendido pela categoria profissional
