Carrier Grade Adaptation for an IP-based Multimodal Application Server: Moving the SoftBridge into SLEE

Sun, Tao January 2004 (has links)

Providing carrier grade characteristics for Internet Protocol (IP) communication applications is a significant problem for IP application providers in order to offer integrated services that span IP&nbsp / and telecommunication networks. This thesis addresses the provision of life-cycle management, which is only one carrier grade characteristic, for a SoftBridge application, which is an example of IP communication applications. A SoftBridge provides semi-synchronous multi-modal IP-based communication. The work related to IP-Telecommunication integrated services and the SoftBridge is analyzed with respect to life-cycle management in a literature review. It is suggested to use an Application Server in a Next Generation Network (NGN) to provide life-cyclemanagement functionality for IP-Telecommunication applications. In this thesis, the Application Server is represented by a JAIN Service Logic Execution Environment(JSLEE), in which&nbsp / a SoftBridge application can be deployed, activated, deactivated, uninstalled and upgraded online. Two methodologies are applied in this research: exploratory prototyping, which evolves the development of a SoftBridge application, and empirical comparison, which is concerned with the empirical evaluation of a SoftBridge application in terms of carriergrade capabilities. A SoftBridge application called SIMBA&nbsp / provides a Deaf Telephony service similar to aprevious Deaf Telephony SoftBridge, However, SIMBA&rsquo / s SoftBridge design and implementation are unique to this thesis. In order to test the life-cycle&nbsp / management ability of SIMBA, an empirical evaluation is carried out including the experiments oflife-cycle management and call-processing performance. The final experimental results of the evaluation show that a JSLEE is able to provide life-cycle management for SIMBA without causing a significant decrease in performance. In conclusion, the life-cycle management can be provided&nbsp / or a SoftBridge application by using an Application Server such as a JSLEE. Futhermore, the results indicate that&nbsp / approach of using Application Server (JSLEE) integration should be&nbsp / sufficiently general to provide life cycle management, and indeed other carrier grade capabilities, for other IP communication applications. This allows IP communication applications to be&nbsp / &nbsp / &nbsp / integrated into an NGN.

Network Service Misuse Detection: A Data Mining Approach

Hsiao, Han-wei 01 September 2004 (has links)
As network services progressively become essential communication and information delivery mechanisms of business operations and individuals¡¦ activities, a challenging network management issue emerges: network service misuse. Network service misuse is formally defined as ¡§abuses or unethical, surreptitious, unauthorized, or illegal uses of network services by those who attempt to mask their uses or presence that evade the management and monitoring of network or system administrators.¡¨ Misuses of network services would inappropriately use resources of network service providers (i.e., server machines), compromise the confidentiality of information maintained in network service providers, and/or prevent other users from using the network normally and securely. Motivated by importance of network service misuse detection, we attempt to exploit the use of router-based network traffic data for facilitating the detection of network service misuses. Specifically, in this thesis study, we propose a cross-training method for learning and predicting network service types from router-based network traffic data. In addition, we also propose two network service misuse detection systems for detecting underground FTP servers and interactive backdoors, respectively. Our evaluations suggest that the proposed cross-training method (specifically, NN->C4.5) outperforms traditional classification analysis techniques (namely C4.5, backpropagation neural network, and Naïve Bayes classifier). In addition, our empirical evaluation conducted in a real-world setting suggests that the proposed underground FTP server detection system could effectively identify underground FTP servers, achieving a recall rate of 95% and a precision rate of 34% (by the NN->C4.5 cross-training technique). Moreover, our empirical evaluation also suggests that the proposed interactive backdoor detection system have the capability in capturing ¡§true¡¨ (or more precisely, highly suspicious) interactive backdoors existing in a real-world network environment.

This thesis took as the object of analysis the performance of the Guardian Council of the city of Rio de Janeiro , in the face of reported cases of sexual abuse and exploitation . The general methodology was adopted mixed methods integrated competitors . The technique of the interview was supplemented by descriptive questionnaire and document analysis . The results were arranged in two articles and a chapter on the characterization of the council members and the infrastructure conditions of the Guardianship Councils . The first article portrayed the main difficulties of operation and mobilization of the network to ensure protection of children and adolescents in situations of sexual violence from the perspective of council members . The second sought to characterize the care of the Councils on cases of sexual violence , through analysis of medical records in three of the 12 existing councils . There was a precarious infrastructure Guardianship Councils . The actions of the Guardianship Councils proved weakened because of the low number of active in the care of children and adolescents exposed to sexual violence services . Customer-based brand equity of the major cellphone network service providers amongst principal estate agents in the Gauteng province of South Africa

Mentz, Hendrik 14 September 2011 (has links)
This study investigates the customer-based brand equity of the major cellphone network service providers (Vodacom, MTN and Cell C) amongst principal estate agents registered with the Estate Agency Affairs Board in Gauteng. Secondary research covered the marketing environment of the major service providers. An extensive study of literature on branding, brand management and brand equity measurement was undertaken. An empirical study was conducted. Telephone interviews were used for initial contact and screening. An invitation to participate in the survey, with a link to a questionnaire, was e-mailed to qualified respondents. Cell C users were excluded from the quantitative analysis. There were several significant findings: Vodacom and MTN users are alike in terms of personal and estate agency-related demographics. With the exception of age and gender, the sample fits the stated descriptors of individuals in the LSM seven to LSM ten groups. Cronbach‘s alpha coefficient confirmed a high level of reliability (0.870) for the summated measurement scale developed as an indicator variable of customer-based brand equity and Vodacom and MTN‘s rating on the summated scale did not differ at a statistically significant level. The service provider used proved to be an important driver of loyalty, but overall satisfaction with the cellphone service does not differ statistically significantly between Vodacom and MTN users. Vodacom has established a much more favourable positioning on the brand association statements evaluated. Factor analysis identified five brand association dimensions that should be considered for measurement of brand associations. Multiple regression analysis identified the brand as a product dimension as the best predictor of customer-based brand equity. Vodacom received more favourable brand performance ratings than MTN. Factor analysis identified six brand performance dimensions that should be considered for inclusion when measuring brand performance. Multiple regression analysis identified the easy to use and one-stop-service dimensions as the best predictors of customer-based brand equity. The customer-based brand equity of the user group is moderate (16 out of 25, or 64%). / Business Management / D. Com. (Business Management)

Rozšíření behaviorální analýzy síťové komunikace určené pro detekci útoků / Extension of Behavioral Analysis of Network Traffic Focusing on Attack Detection

Teknős, Martin January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is focused on network behavior analysis (NBA) designed to detect network attacks. The goal of the thesis is to increase detection accuracy of obfuscated network attacks. Methods and techniques used to detect network attacks and network traffic classification were presented first. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) in terms of their functionality and possible attacks on them are described next. This work also describes principles of selected attacks against IDS. Further, obfuscation methods which can be used to overcome NBA are suggested. The tool for automatic exploitation, attack obfuscation and collection of this network communication was designed and implemented. This tool was used for execution of network attacks. A dataset for experiments was obtained from collected network communications. Finally, achieved results emphasized requirement of training NBA models by obfuscated malicious network traffic.
