Machado, Tatiane Martins January 2014 (has links)
The use of wireless networks in industrial environment is growing due to the advantages of these networks compared to wired systems. However, the wireless networks must have the same robustness that wired networks. It is necessary to ensure the link between devices and it is also necessary that the network meets the requirements of real-time communication. The WirelessHART protocol was created in 2007, and it is the first open wireless communication standard specifically designed for industrial environments. This protocol has been gaining increasing applicability in industry due to its high reliability and robustness. Because it is a recent protocol, there are still many ongoing researches. One of them is related to tools for analyzing and monitoring the network. Such tools have the main objective to capture the messages that travel on the network, acting as a sniffer. However, the WirelessHART protocol has some peculiarities as compared to other wireless networks, such as the use of 15 different channels. Because of this, many sniffers already proposed for wireless networks can not be applied, because they capture data on only one frequency. Another issue is related to the monitoring networks already installed, where devices can be found in places of difficult access. Thus, it is necessary that the tool has mobility, i.e., does not need to be connected to a computer, for example. So, since there is still no ideal monitoring tool for WirelessHART networks, this paper proposes a new tool, which has advantages such as: data capture in 15 channels using only one radio receiver, local storage of captured data using a memory card and measuring the energy in the channels for getting information about interference in the network. In addition, an offline application presents statistics and analysis about the captured data. This paper presents some important theoretical concepts about the protocol and implementation details of the tool. The results show that the tool is working properly as a sniffer and it’s performing the interference detection in the network . A case study shows the behavior of the WirelessHART network coexisting with IEEE 802.11 standard.

Analisador de redes wirelesshart

Lorençato, Alexandre de Andrade January 2013 (has links)
WirelessHART is a robust and reliable protocol for industrial environment usage because of its secure mechanism, the ability of programming several communication routes between network devices, and deterministic, free of collisions channel hopping medium access controller. However, in order to increase the adoption of this technology, it is necessary to increase the amount of WirelessHART manufacturers to develop industrial sensors and actuators devices. This leads to the necessity of create tools that will assist the development and debugging of new network compliant devices. The WirelessHART network analyzer is undoubtedly one of these tools. Various approaches are being proposed for the analysis of WirelessHART networks. However, all of them make use of a microcomputer as an element of the whole system and this difficults their use in real field applications. The presence of wires, lack of local data storage and other aspects such as batteries limitations must be considered when the users intend to use analysis systems in field. This work proposes alternatives to current analysis networks systems by presenting two conceptually different proposals that meet the basic requirements for the use in the field. One of them is based on the proposed integration between a field device and an innovative method of capturing messages using only one transceiver, which is implemented as proof of concept.

Characterization of monkey fat tissues : To assist their viability for fat intra-body communication as an early step of non-human primate testing (NHP)

Alyounes, Qsai, Razan, Alkari January 2022 (has links)
Fat intra-body communication is a newly proven concept that is built on using human fat tissues as a communication channel for electromagnetic waves inside the body. This allows for two implanted external devices to connect through an intra-body closed-loop communication channel. This concept utilizes the fact that the fat tissues have low dielectric properties and are located between two tissue layers, skin and muscle, which have high dielectric permittivity and high loss tangent so that the signal propagates and confines with lower losses within the fat tissue. In this study, the eligibility of using monkey fat tissues as a communication channel for intra-body communication is being investigated. This comes as a first step in a long process of testing implementing medical devices, mainly prosthetic limbs, on non-human primates using fat-IBC at microwave frequencies. To be able to do that, an experimental characterization of ex-vivo monkey fat, skin, and muscle tissues to explore their dielectric properties compared to those of humans is being carried out. This study of the dielectric properties of monkey tissues is the first of its kind to be carried out on two samples of ex-vivo monkey tissues. Calf tissues have also been investigated in the study to get an insight on the potential differences between human and non-human body tissues in general before doing measurements on monkey tissues. For the measurements, an RF network analyzer and an open-ended coaxial probe method have been implemented. Phantoms that mimic the human tissues have been fabricated to be used as a reference point. The initial investigation demonstrates that calf fat tissues have much higher dielectric properties than human fat tissues. Monkey fat, muscle, and skin tissues showed many similarities to human tissues regarding their dielectric properties. This indicates that monkey tissues can be used for fat intra-body communication. Future numerical and analytical modeling of the monkey tissues needs to be conducted to confirm and strengthen this finding.

Trapping and Reliability investigations in GaN-based HEMTs / Investigation des effets de pièges et des aspects de fiabilité des transistors à haute mobilité d’électrons en Nitrure de Gallium

Benvegnù, Agostino 28 September 2016 (has links)
GaN-based high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) are promising candidates for future microwave equipment, such as new solid state power amplifiers (SSPAs), thanks to their excellent performance. A first demonstration of GaN-MMIC transmitter has been developed and put on board the PROBA-V mission. But this technology still suffers from the trapping phenomena, principally due to lattice defects. Thus, the aim of this research is to investigate the trapping effects and the reliability aspects of the GH50 power transistors for C-band applications. A new trap investigation protocol to obtain a complete overview of trap behavior from DC to radio-frequency operation modes, based on combined pulsed I/V measurements, DC and RF drain current measurements, and low-frequency dispersion measurements, is proposed. Furthermore, a nonlinear electro-thermal AlGaN/GaN model with a new additive thermal-trap model including the dynamic behavior of these trap states and their associated temperature variations is presented, in order to correctly predict the RF performance during real RF operating conditions. Finally, an advanced time-domain methodology is presented in order to investigate the device’s reliability and to determine its safe operating area. This methodology is based on the continual monitoring of the RF waveforms and DC parameters under overdrive conditions in order to assess the degradation of the transistor characteristics in the RF power amplifier.
