Scheduling optimization of manufacturing systems with no-wait constraints

Samarghandi, Hamed January 2013 (has links)
No-wait scheduling problem refers to the set of problems in which a number of jobs are available for processing on a number of machines with the added constraint that there should be no waiting time between consecutive operations of the jobs. It is well-known that most of the no-wait scheduling problems are strongly NP-hard. Moreover, no-wait scheduling problems have numerous real-life applications. This thesis studies a wide range of no-wait scheduling problems, along with side constraints that make such problems more applicable. First, 2-machine no-wait flow shop problem is studied. Afterwards, setup times and single server constraints are added to this problem in order to make it more applicable. Then, job shop version of this problem is further researched. Analytical results for both of these problems are presented; moreover, efficient algorithms are developed and applied to large instances of these problems. Afterward, general no-wait flow shop problem (NWFS) is the focus of the thesis. First, the NWFS is studied; mathematical models as well as metaheuristics are developed for NWFS. Then, setup times are added to NWFS in order to make the problem more applicable. Finally, the case of sequence dependent setup times is further researched. Efficient algorithms are developed for both problems. Finally, no-wait job shop (NWJS) problem is studied. Literature has proposed different methods to solve NWJS; the most successful approaches decompose the problem into a timetabling sub-problem and a sequencing sub-problem. Different sequencing and timetabling algorithms are developed to solve NWJS. This thesis provides insight to several no-wait scheduling problems. A number of theorems are discussed and proved in order to find the optimum solution of no-wait problems with special characteristics. For the problems without such characteristics, mathematical models are developed. Metaheuristics are utilized to deal with large-instances of NP-hard problems. Computational results show that the developed methods in this thesis are very effective and efficient compared to the competitive methods available in the literature.

Minimização do total tardiness em sistema de produção no-wait flowshop com manutenção preventiva / Minimization of total tardiness in flowshop no-wait production system with preventive maintenance

Yamada, Tuane Tonani 15 May 2019 (has links)
Efficient organizations are those that manage to keep the quality, cost and time strands balanced. With respect to the variable time, there are several stages of the production chain in which it must be monitored. When scheduling in companies is not prioritized, several negative effects incur. One of them is the delay in relation to the due date, for which the corporation can suffer financial penalties, in addition to a negative exposure to the brand, which may have its credibility challenged. Therefore, this research aims to propose constructive methods, which minimizes the performance criterion of total tardiness. In order to approximate the method to the reality of the industries, preventive maintenance constraints will be considered. And the environment of the study will be the no-wait flowshop, in which jobs are processed continuously and without interruptions between one operation and another of the same job. In addition to proposing constructive methods to solve the problem, a metaheuristic is presented as a way of demonstrating how to improve the results generated by the constructive methods. Computational experiments were elaborated and performed for comparison of the algorithms. Among the constructive heuristics that presented the best performance was \"EDD + NEH + LS1 + LS2\", in which it uses an insertion logic. The proposed metaheuristic is based on the IG (iterated greedy) procedure, and there is an improvement of the result in relation to the constructive heuristics. Thus, it is expected that this research can be used and applied by the manufacturing industry to increase the effectiveness of scheduling.

This work deals with the no-wait flow shop scheduling problem with the objective of minimizing total flowtime. Métodos heurísticos para minimização da duração total da programação em ambiente no-wait flow shop com políticas de manutenção-preventiva / Heuristics methods for the no-wait flow shop problem with preventive maintenance constraints and makespan minimization

Miyata, Hugo Hissashi 20 July 2015 (has links)
The no-wait flow shop scheduling problem has been studied since 60\'s. In this environment, jobs must be processed continuously without interruption between one machine and another, and because of this, a delay between the start time of the previous job and the start time of the current job must be determined in the first machine. In this sense, since a job starts its processing, the machines must be available to respect the no-wait constraint. Therefore, preventive maintenance operations are needed. This work adresses two problems: the m machine no-wait flow shop and the m machine no-wait flow shop with preventive maintenance operations. The performance measure adopted was the makespan. By means of a literature review, mechanisms of solution construction were identified and classified. New simple and composite constructive heuristics were proposed to the no-wait flow shop problem and a new composite constructive heuristic was developed considering the preventive maintenance operations. Computational experiments and their respective analyses for both problems were carried out to compare and evaluate the performance between the proposed methods and the constructive heuristics of the literature. Regarding Fm|no - wait|Cmax problem, results show that the proposed heuristics H4GPSLLS and MH4GPSLLS outperformed the heuristics of the literature in quality of the solution and is statistically significative to 5% of significance level. To the Fm|no - wait, m(k)|Cmax problem it can be seen that the proposed heuristic BIHLS and H4GPSLLS and MH4GPSLLS outperformed the heuristics of the literature and is statistically better to 5% of significance level.

Heurística evolutiva para problemas de programação em no-wait flowshop com tempos de setup / Evolutionary heuristic for programming problems in no-wait flowshop with setup times

Silva, Augusto Almeida da 02 August 2012 (has links)
This work intends to research the no-wait flowshop scheduling problem with setup times separated from the processing costs; the both cases where the sequence is dependent and independent are targeted for makespan and total flowtime. There are numerous practical situations that can be modeled under these assumptions, such as, chemical industry, food processing, etc. A hybrid metaheuristic method based on a genetic algorithm and clustering search is proposed and its results are compared to the methods of Brown et al (2004), França et al (2006) e Ruiz e Allahverdi (2007) using the data base from Ruiz e Stützle (2008) and Ruiz e Allahverdi (2007). The methods are evaluated as regarding the success rate and average relative deviation. The results show that the proposed method delivers better solutions for problems with higher complexity.
