Passive acoustic imaging and monitoring using ambient noise

Lani, Shane W. 14 November 2012 (has links)
An approximate of the Green's function can be obtained by taking the cross-correlation of ambient noise that has been simultaneously recorded on separate sensors. This method is applied for two experiments, which illustrate the advantages and challenges of this technique. The first experiment is in the ultrasonic regime [5-30] MHz and uses capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer arrays to image the near field and compares the passive imaging to the conventional pulse-echo imaging. Both the array and target are immersed in a fluid with the sensors recording the fluid's random thermal-mechanical motion as the ambient noise. The second experiment is a passive ocean monitoring experiment, which uses spatiotemporal filtering to rapidly extract coherent arrivals between two vertical line arrays. In this case the ambient noise in the frequency band [250 1500] Hz is dominated by non-stationary shipping noise. For imaging purposes, the cross-correlation needs to extract the Green's function so that the imaging can be done correctly. While for monitoring purposes, the important feature is the change in arrivals, which corresponds to the environment changing. Results of both experiments are presented along with the advantages of this passive method over the more accepted active methods.

Vliv dopravního hluku na zdraví exponované populace / The traffic noise influence on the health of the exposed population

DIVÁCKÝ, Jan January 2017 (has links)
This presented diploma thesis deals with evaluation of the traffic noise influence on the health of the exposed population. The objectives of this thesis are based on the results of Environmental Health System in the Czech Republic (Subsystem III), which provides the long-term monitoring of the noise in the municipal environment of the chosen agglomerations. A part of the noisy location monitoring is also the questionnaire survey confirming hypothesis n.1: "At the traffic noise perceiving, there is an important psychosocial bound, which often stands in opposition to the results of the noise measurements". Furthermore, the thesis describes the results of the indicative measurement of the chosen noisy localities in comparison with same locality measurements in the technical accuracy class. The indicative gauge tests were made on the traffic-busy roads in Jihlava city. The measurement has proved the link between the intensity of the traffic flow and indicatively determined noise levels and practical applicability for the local planning or local controlling incentives solution. The results of the indicative measurements point out to breaking of the equivalent night noise levels for sleep disturbance in three chosen localities. Breaking of the equivalent day noise levels has a nature of the noise annoyance. The measured road-traffic-caused night and day noise levels may be compared to the recommendations for the risks of increased incidence of selected civilization diseases published by the World Health Organisation.

Monitoring hlukové zátěže lidských obydlí způsobené pomocnými provozy v zemědělství. / Noise stress monitoring on inhabitance caused by agriculture auxiliaries

HULOVÁ, Lucie January 2011 (has links)
This thesis deals with noise stress monitoring on inhabitance, caused by agriculture auxiliaries. The examined source of noise is a company plant ?PIVKOVICE a.s.?, which is located in village Netonice. The company is mainly engaged in beef-raising. The monitoring has been done according to the valid regulations, within an 8-hour interval from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the sheltered outside space of the company building. The unwanted noise data, which were not related to the plant?s operation, were omitted. The results have been evaluated graphically and all the corresponding calculations have been created.
