Educational compact discs or CD-ROM's are appearing more frequently in the classroom. An educational science laboratory safety CD was developed at the University of Lethbridge in 1994. This case study is an evaluation of the U. of L. safety CD to determine how well the disc facilitates independent, student directed learning. The study involved forty four High School students at Matthew Halton Community School in Pincher Creek, Alberta. The students used the CD in Biology and Chemistry classes. The survey included observations, questionnaire, and interviews to solicit student reaction to the disc. Students agreed that the CD was easy to use and that it was well suited for independent learning. They also made suggestions for further improvements. / 1 compact disk ; 4 3/4 in.

The role of interspecific competition as a regulating force in natural populations has been controversial, especially for phytophagous insect communities. A series of manipulative experiments using enclosure cages were conducted to evaluate the role of interspecific competition between a weevil and a fly, two seed feeding agents released against spotted knapweed in North America. The fly, an inferior biological control agent, was the superior competitor. Consequences of the antagonistic interaction included reduced seed destruction compared to if just the weevil was released on its own. The role of plant phenology on insect herbivore density was also assessed. The implications of phenologyinduced variation in insect density were evaluated with respect to competition between the fly and the weevil and were found to be important. Hypotheses of four plantmediated mechanisms of interspecific competition were also tested. Results support resource preemption as a competitive mechanism. / vii, 97 leaves ; 29 cm

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) has established educational programs throughout the world. The aim of these programs is to help students in gaining and understanding and personal witness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ while they pursue secular studies. This project is an online resource, a handbook of instruction, designed for LDS religious educators across the globe to access and interact with, so as to facilitate teaching in the LDS classroom. Produced in Net Objects Fusion 3.0 this multimedia handbook makes use of text, graphics, and other information to teach and provide quality material and perspective for the LDS volunteer seminary teacher. This project is best viewed using Netscape Communicator 4.0 on a minimum 17 inch monitor. The online resource for teachers is offered with the following purposes in mind: (i) to inspire teachers to more effective and powerful teaching in the LDS classroom (ii) to help teachers understand the principles around quality religious instruction (iii) to guide teachers in the application of these principles so that quality religious instruction is assured (iv) to help teachers develop quality teaching skills for religious instruction / 1 computer optical disc ; 4 3/4 in + abstract.
