Ce projet de maîtrise vise à examiner le déploiement du « terroir boréal » à partir du cas des produits forestiers non ligneux (PFNL). Lors d'une enquête de terrain dans la région, des données ont été recueillies auprès d'entrepreneurs du secteur PFNL. Les résultats mettent en lumière l'ancrage territorial et social de ces produits, ainsi que des pratiques qui leur sont associées, afin de comprendre comment ils participent à la création de ce nouveau terroir. Nos analyses montrent que le déploiement du terroir boréal implique l'engendrement et la reproduction d'imaginaires collectifs mettant en dialogue les thèmes de territoire, de nordicité, de forêt, d'identité et de tradition. Il met en jeu une organisation intriquée d'acteurs sociaux déployant savoir-faire et techniques autour d'un objet économique foncièrement contemporain. Les conceptions qui en découlent, celles d'un territoire forestier et nordique et d'une typicité sociale et culturelle sont à la genèse d'une identité régionale ancrée dans son terroir. / This master's thesis investigates the creation of a new terroir in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of the Province of Quebec. The "terroir boréal" is examined through the study of the small scale industry based on non-timber forest products (NTFP) that is steadily growing in the region. The field research provided empirical data about the sector's entrepreneurs. Its analysis imparts in-depth understanding of the way both products and practices associated with NTFPs are rooted in the region as well as in the culture. We also look at the ways in which they contribute to the terroir. The argument will be made that the terroir boréal generates recurring collective "imaginaries" that involve themes regarding territory, northerness, forest, identity and tradition. At its core, various social actors are elaborating techniques and know-how, providing insight about the very modern economic quality of the terroir. In that sense, the NTFPs are a reservoir of representations of a particular relationship with the forest and northern land. The social and cultural characteristics in which they are ingrained are the genesis of a new regional identity embedded in its terroir.
