EXCITATION OF THE DELTA-RESONANCE IN COMPRESSED FINITE NUCLEI (HARTREE-FOCK).HASAN, MAHMOUD AHMAD MAR'I. January 1987 (has links)
This dissertation presents a non-relativistic microscopic mean field theory of finite nuclei in which the nucleus is described as a collection of nucleons and delta resonances. The ground state properties of the nuclei ¹⁶O and ⁴⁰Ca are determined within the spherical Hartree-Fock (SHF) approximation using a realistic effective no-core Hamiltonian in basis spaces consisting of up to six major oscillator shells. A detailed study of the zero temperature properties of these nuclei under compression and dilation is presented in order to gain insight into the nuclear equation of state. Under certain conditions a transition to a mixture of nucleons and deltas is found. The transition is reminiscent of a first order phase transition.

The nuclear structure study of superdeformation in A ~ 130 Pr odd massLin, Sherg-Tzong 19 July 2002 (has links)
We use projected shell model to study the superdeformed phenomena in the Pr isotopes ,including 129Pr¡B131Pr¡B133Pr¡B135Pr. The calculating kinetic moment of inertia J(1) and dynamic moment of inertia J(2) compare with the experimental values are very well. We can find that there is no a obvious peak appearing in the dynamic moments of inertia diagrams in even-odd nuclei. The phenomena have been interpreted that have no a crossing of the s _band with the g_band .

Signature splitting and inversion in the 186-194 Au Nuclei predicted by the total routhian surface (TRS) and cranked shell model (CSM) calculationsShirinda, Obed January 2007 (has links)
Magister Scientiae - MSc / The nearly oblate deformed Au nuclei show rotational bands built on multi quasiparticle excitations [Bou89, Bou92, Gue03, Gue01, Ven92]. Several of these bands are built on rotationally aligned high-j proton and neutron excitations. In many cases bands consisting of two or three signature partner E2 sequences are observed. For some fo these bands signature inversion is found and this feature gives a great challenge to the theoretical models. In this study the researcher performed TRS and CSM calculations for all high-j rotational bands in the p186-194s Au nuclei aiming to predict the signature splitting and inversion phemomena, alignments, gains in alignments, gains in alignment and band crossing frequencies observed. / South Africa
