The reaction of monochloromethyl ether with organometallic compounds

Tang, Philip Jen-chien 10 July 2010 (has links)
1. The reactions of monochlormethyl ether with the magnesium cadmium and zinc derivatives of normal propyl and isopropyl halides were investigated. 2. In both the normal propyl and iso-propyl aeries, the yields of the expected condensation products RCH₂OCH₃ appeared in the order RMgX>R₂Zn>R₂Cd. 3. The primary organometallic compounds reacted with monochlormethyl ether in higher yields than did the corresponding secondary compounds. 4. A new method was developed for preparing a zinc-copper couple by heating a mixture of zinc dust and powdered cupric citrate under an atmosphere of nitrogen. 5. This method gave a couple superior in laboratory use to the zinc-copper couples how generally employed. / Master of Science

Cycloalkane Metathesis using a Bi-metallic System: Understanding the Effect of Second metal in Metathesis Reaction

Alshanqiti, Ahmed M. 09 1900 (has links)
Over the past decades, since the discovery of a single–site silica-supported catalyst for the alkane metathesis reaction by our group, we have been extensively working on the development of supported catalytic systems for the improved alkane metathesis reaction. During these developments, we understand the reaction mechanism and reached a new perspective for the synthesis of various supported bimetallic systems via the surface organometallic chemistry (SOMC) approach. Recently, with this bi-metallic system, we got a very high TON (10000) in propane metathesis reaction. As these catalysts are very efficient for linear alkanes we thought to apply it for cyclo-alkanes specifically, for cyclo-octane metathesis expecting better activity. Besides, the value of the ring alkanes are higher than the linear alkanes. The current work demonstrates a combination of [(ΞSi−O−)W(Me)5] and [(ΞSi− O−)Ti(Np)3 pre-catalyst with several supports (SiO2-700, SBA-15 and MCM-41) for metathesis of cyclooctane. The catalysts have been synthesized and fully characterized by elemental analysis (EA), FT-IR and NMR spectroscopies. After fully characterization the bi-metallic catalyst was tested for metathesis of cyclooctane with highest ever TON 2500 as compared to that of mono-metallic catalyst where we got 430 TON. Which again corroborates our prediction that bimetallic catalysts are better catalysts than monometallic catalysts.

The method development for synthesizing chiral CCC-NHC Zr pincer complexes

Chakraborty, Amarraj 14 August 2015 (has links)
There are numerous classes of N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) that have been synthesized since the discovery of stable NHCs in 1988. Their application as ligands in metal complexes has received much attention because of their strong sigma-donor and poor pi-acceptor properties. Within these NHC metal complexes, we are interested in studying zirconium metal complexes with pincer NHC ligands. Recently, achiral CCC-NHC pincer zirconium complexes were synthesized and their catalytic activity in intramolecular hydroamination of aminoalkenes were reported. Herein is reported new reaction conditions which yield pure, chiral CCC-NHC Zr pincer mono(amido) dibromo complex. The enantiopure crystal structure of the same complex is reported. Attempts to synthesize chiral CCC-NHC Zr pincer bis- and tris- amido complexes with the iodo salt of the ligand precursor are summarized. Moreover, syntheses of chiral bis(imidazolinium) ligand precursors with different counter anions are reported with optimized reaction conditions.
