Design criteria for the acoustical environment in open plan offices

Matić, Vojislava January 1976 (has links)
The concept of open planned office space is becoming more and more popular. However, there is a serious problem associated with this concept, that being the attainment of speech privacy. Since speech privacy is a very important issue for some types of office work the main objective of this thesis is to study the acoustic requirements of the open plan office. In order to improve office working conditions, it was decided to correlate existing theoretical findings on general office noise and screen/ceiling acoustical performance with actual situations from seven office layout samples taken in the Vancouver, B.C., area. Of the people who have been doing research in this specific area, Geiger and Hamme in Ann Arbor, Michigan, appear to be the furthest advanced. The purpose of this thesis is to extend the work of Geiger and Hamme as a contribution to the existing findings of the acoustical characteristics of open plan office space. To achieve the goals of this thesis, the historical background of office buildings, a study of current space requirements and the importance of speech privacy are examined. Further theoretical issues include an explanation of acoustical performance of specific building elements. The objective of this discussion is to expand the data base of a number of acoustical parameters including average sound levels, articulation index and screen/ceiling attenuation values, in order to further develop existing acoustical design criteria. The study concludes that while there is indeed a need for speech privacy in open plan offices, the degree of need varies considerably with the level of confidentiality. The research confirms that the greater the need for speech privacy, the less satisfactory is the open office concept. Further study in this field is clearly indicated and includes further exploration of the following factors: 1. The definition of people's concerns regarding speech privacy. 2. The economic factors and their implications. 3. The establishment of environmental maxims. / Applied Science, Faculty of / Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA), School of / Graduate

Die bestuur van ondernemingspolitiek

Fourie, Sophia Elizabeth 12 September 2012 (has links)
D.Comm. / Organisations are complex, dynamic social systems comprised of numerous interdependent and inter-related variables, and consequently they can be difficult to understand. People join organisations to bring about a desired future. However, to succeed, they must be able to predict the behaviour of those around them. Similarly, they must make themselves predictable. Mutual predictability makes for successful organisations. Unstable and fast changing goals and technologies tend to cause anxiety, stress, and overstrain in people. This tension appears as excessive politics, defending one's privileges, or to simply spend more energy on life outside the organisation, than on a career and work life. The mere mention of politics inevitably invokes negative thoughts from most organisational members. Politics in organisations seem to conjure up scheming plots and conspirators preparing a plan to do someone "in" utilising other than "pleasant" methods. And indeed there are times that this is the way politics are played. Politics rather than being viewed negatively should be viewed as a positive force within an organisation and effective managers will encourage politics, if played fairly. A certain amount of political behaviour appears in all organisations. Managers, who do not understand the politics of their organisations, are at a disadvantage and will find it difficult to get things done. Managers should recognise the inevitability of organisational politics and attempt to use and manage it effectively. This result of this research is an integrated perspective of the concepts, which describe and explain organisational politics in order for managers to understand and manage political behaviour in organisations.

The Study of business-founding of SOHO group-based on the IT industry

Li, Chin-Tsung 12 February 2003 (has links)
ABSTRACT According the economical depression, the ratio of outsourcing increasing, the rate of unemployment sustain in the high level, rapid development of internet and communication innovation, the SOHO group (Small Office Home office) working style is get more popular. SOHO group has the following characteristics: creative, willing to take risk, self control, independent, self-challenge and searching for freedom. In the new economic ages, SOHO group will create their position and value via project. This paper chooses two cases of SOHO group as the studying sample, one is Hungfu Information and another is the MicroTrue Technology Corp. The first company has ten years experience, and the second has 2 years experience in SOHO group. Both of them are the SOHO group in the IT industry. The first company is a project-based company, and wants to be a middle range or large scale IT Company. The second company is sales oriented and with a little R&D activities, self-control freedom is his objective. We will get some information of SOHO group in IT fields via their personal background, motivation of creative enterprise, the process of start an enterprise and thoughts of start an enterprise. In the case study, we can understand that the major driven force SOHO group start an enterprise is the balance between family, money, time and work. SOHO group must have the characteristics of willing to change, searching customer by themselves, maintain existing customer, facing problems and solving them and combined with their professional ability to find their own creative fields.
