Practical aspects of loss measurement, link analysis, receiver design, and controller implementation are examined. The fundamental operation of the system relies on conversion of the voltage data to be a variable frequency TTL pulse train. The pulse train modulates a 1300 nm laser, which transmits the telemetry data via single mode fiber to the shore station. One of the two test voltages can be selected by the shore-based controller, via the bidirectional link.
