Long haul underwater fiber optic link

DeNap, Frank A. January 1988 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / This thesis presents the design test and evaluation of a fiber optic remote monitoring system. Practical aspects of loss measurement, link analysis, receiver design, and controller implementation are examined. The fundamental operation of the system relies on conversion of the voltage data to be a variable frequency TTL pulse train. The pulse train modulates a 1300 nm laser, which transmits the telemetry data via single mode fiber to the shore station. One of the two test voltages can be selected by the shore-based controller, via the bidirectional link.
