It was done departing from the neoclassical growth model hypothesis of income convergence. A panel data model was tested using the fixed effect specification. The migration effect over the evolution process of the AECs (statistically comparable areas) trying to find out the existence of spatial relationship was also tested. The results show the presence of conditional convergence, which is accelerated by the population increase and directly related to the neighbourhood income / O trabalho estuda a dinâmica do produto e da população no Rio Grande do Sul, entre os anos de 1949 e 2000.
