Processes that have been expressed through the different material categories, writings and material sources from testimonies of volunteers and non-volunteers. The work contemplates, for beyond the study of the consumer goods, a lifting about the selling of products imported from Europe that were arising on the commercial scenery of Porto Alegre, also mapping the area of the great webs of importation and distributions of them until the final destiny of the products, the discard, through a study from the collectives wastes which materializes that consume process revealing forms, distinct types of objects, decorative causes, marks, makers, origins, etc. / A presente dissertação procura analisar e interpretar as diferentes representações da vida material e econômica da cidade de Porto Alegre, investigando práticas de consumo, aquisição e descarte da cultura material de determinados segmentos da população urbana porto-alegrense, durante o século XIX. Processos que foram expressos através de diferentes categorias materiais, fontes escritas e materiais provenientes de testemunhos voluntários e involuntários. Contempla, além do estudo sobre bens de consumo, um levantamento sobre a venda de produtos importados da Europa que chegavam ao mercado consumidor de Porto Alegre, assim como o mapeamento das principais redes de importação e distribuição destes artigos, até chegar ao destino final dos produtos, o descarte, num estudo das lixeiras coletivas que materializam esse processo de consumo revelando formas, diferentes tipos de objetos, motivos decorativos, marcas, fabricantes, origens, etc.
