A investigação se deu em razão de haver uma idéia de desenvolvimento que se expressa acentuadamente, na região e nas instituições de ensino superior, desde o período da formação e da colonização do sudoeste paranaense, bem como na atualidade. Essa mesma idéia tem acompanhado e justificado a inserção e o crescimento de Instituições de Ensino Superior nesse contexto, originando um evento denominado ¿Fórum de Ensino superior¿, envolvendo as IES do Sudoeste do Paraná e do Oeste catarinense, no intuito de discutir o papel do ensino superior no desenvolvimento regional. O estudo descritivo-analítico, a partir da documentação resultante de quatro edições do Fórum, bem como de bibliografia pertinente à temática, revelou uma relação histórica entre os conceitos de região, desenvolvimento e ensino superior que insere o contexto regional numa dinâmica da expansão local, nacional e cada vez mais mundializada do capital / Abstract: The present research has the objective of analyzing the manifestations of the region concepts, development and their relations with superior education in the southwest of Paraná, in last the fifty years. The inquiry happened in reason of having a development idea that is seen very much in the region and in the institutions of superior education, since the period of the formation and the settling of the Paranaense southwestern, as well as in the present time. This same idea has followed and justified the insertion and the growth of Institutions of Superior Education in this context, originating an event called "Forum of Superior Education", involving the southwestern Superior Education Institutions of Paraná and West of Santa Catarina ones, with the intention of discussing the paper of superior education in the regional development. The analytical-descriptive study, from the resultant documentation of four editions of the Forum, as well as of the bibliography pertinent to the thematic, revealed a historical relation among the concepts of region, development and superior education that the regional context in a dynamics of the local, national expansion and more and more worldwided of the capital / Doutorado / Historia, Filosofia e Educação / Doutor em Educação
