O meio ambiente na prática de escolas públicas da rede estadual de São Paulo: intenções e possibilidades / The environment in the practice of public schools of the state net of São Paulo: intentions and possibilities.

Ferreira, Claudia Elisa Alves 28 February 2012 (has links)
We know that the school is not only the responsible for modifying the population posture to become it more ethics and environmently responsible and that the alone Environmental Education does not have the power to transform the society. However, the social role of the scholar institution is evident and the Environmental Education serves as a tool to stimulate the reflection, to provide knowledge and to subsidize the action. The research that we carry through was of qualitative character and we choose a Multiple Study of Case, that analyzed three schools. This work had as its General Objective to investigate if the Environmental Education proposal, that appears in the public politics and in the official documents of Government Department of Education and the Environment Department, among others, has been effectively applied in the formal education. Our Specific Objectives had been: to verify with the Educational Department how was done the production of pedagogical materials send to the public schools in the last five years, with emphasis in those related to the environment; to follow the use of these materials by 5th. to 8th. series school teachers on three searched schools, as well as identifying their conceptions about the environment, by investigating if the contents of the transversal subjects of the National Curricular Parameters have been worked in this educational cycle and to observe if the Environmental Education comes being applied as an interdisciplinar way in the Basic Education. To collect data we use: questionnaires, half-structuralized interviews, document analysis, direct observation of the lessons on 5th. to 8th. series in the three schools, analysis of the meetings of annual planning and the Pedagogical Political Projects of them. We also examined the content of Students Notebook, that had been used by the institutions in the year of 2009, emphasizing the presence of the Environment subject, looking for to present suggestions of improvement for its. We observe that the pedagogical materials emitted by the official agencies of education include the environmental question in its elaboration. However, we realized that, in practical uses, not even this subject is considered in the lessons, and the professors feel themselves unprepared to apply these contents. They mention difficulties, like the excess of pupils in each room, infrastructural lack in the school, among others. We observe that the environmental questions are still presented of superficial and pragmatic way and that there is not a more critical reflection. We suggest that the Environmental Education has to be inserted in the school environment along all the disciplines, by stimulating reflections and actions in this context, that involve pupils, school teachers, employees and community and that these actions must be part of the Pedagogical Political Projects of the schools. So, this work considered, to extend the environmental quarrel sphere, to raise debates about the pedagogical practice and to stimulate all the involved ones to recognize the importance of the critical Environmental Education for the construction of a more integrated society.

Teaching speaking in the English classroom : Teacher practices in Swedish upper secondary schools

Villegas Martínez, Jorge January 2018 (has links)
This qualitative study aims to investigate how teachers of English as a foreign language (EFL) work to develop their students’ oral proficiency. The study analyses interviews and pedagogical materials to elucidate how the interviewed teachers regard their students’ oral proficiency, what kind of activities they use for teaching speaking and how they assess oral proficiency. The participants were two licensed English teachers of higher upper secondary education, and different materials that the teachers used were analysed, including a textbook. The teachers regarded their students’ oral proficiency as generally good or very good but noted that significant differences existed in most groups regarding proficiency and that certain students who were less proficient showed an unwillingness to use the target language, which indicates a need of better strategies to involve these students in the learning process. The findings of this study suggest that the interviewed EFL teachers teach speaking according to the communicative approach and that the activities they use more frequently for teaching speaking were discussions, followed by presentations, speeches, role-playing and debates. However, the interviews and the pedagogical materials reflected a lack of focus on the features of spoken language, the importance of which has been proven by findings in corpus linguistics and conversation analysis. These findings indicate a need to raise awareness among teachers about the benefits of focusing on the features of spoken language. Regarding assessment, informal formative assessment in the form of direct observation was the most common form, while formal assessment was used in presentations and examinations in the form of group discussions. The teachers acknowledged some confusion regarding assessment due to the lack of clear guidelines from Skolverket. Moreover, they regarded speaking as being more important than other skills, which indicates the possibility of redefining the value of speaking in the course evaluation.

The development and empirical substantiation of Japanese pedagogical materials based on kabuki

Katsumata, Yuriko 21 May 2020 (has links)
Many researchers (e.g., Nation, 2001, 2015; Schmitt, 2000) have recognized the importance of vocabulary learning in second language (L2) or additional language (AL) acquisition. The strong effects of lexical and background knowledge on L2reading comprehension have similarly been found in various studies (e.g., Hu & Nation, 2000; Rokni & Hajilari, 2013). In the case of Japanese language, the opportunities for acquiring the lexical and background knowledge associated with Japanese history and culture, especially traditional culture, are scant, because only a small number of Japanese pedagogical materials deal minimally with these topics. Meanwhile, many learners are motivated to study Japanese because of their interest in Japanese history and culture, according to a survey conducted by the Japan Foundation in 2012. This project aimed to increase the opportunities for learning Japanese history and traditional culture through the development of new pedagogical materials based on kabuki, and then the empirical evaluation of the developed pedagogical materials. Nine Chinese-as-a-first-language Japanese learners at the upper-intermediate level participated in the nine-week online course, including the pre- and post-course tests in the first and last weeks. Employing a multi-method research approach, the study examined the changes in learners’ lexical and background knowledge related to Japanese history and culture, their reading comprehension, and their interest in kabuki. Four kinds of multiple-choice tests were administered to collect the quantitative data. In addition, the qualitative data were gathered through the pre- and post-course questionnaires and post-course individual interviews. Overall, the findings indicated that almost all participants increased their background knowledge of kabuki, as well as their vocabulary related to kabuki and general theatrical performances. The results in other areas, such as historical vocabulary, vocabulary depth, reading comprehension, and historical background knowledge were mixed. Further, concerning the depth of vocabulary knowledge, it was found that the learning of vocabulary depth was more difficult than learning of vocabulary breadth. Likewise, the knowledge of use, such as collocations and register constraints, was found to be more difficult to learn than other aspects of vocabulary depth. The participants’ reports in the post-course questionnaire and individual interviews showed that most participants seemed to have increased their interest in kabuki. Overall, the first-of-their-kind developed pedagogical materials contributed to the development of lexical and background knowledge, specifically knowledge associated with Japanese traditional culture and history. This study may provide a model for an evidence-based approach to the development of pedagogical materials that practitioners can adopt or adapt. / Graduate

A produção de material didático pedagógico para a implantação dapolítica de educação permanente em saúde: a experiência de Sergipe / The production of didactic material for teaching dapolítica deployment of permanent education in health: the experience of Sergipe

Santos, Cláudia Menezes January 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-04T12:36:21Z (GMT). / This research aims to analyze the production of didactic and pedagogical material of SES, trying to understand the limits and possibilities of its construction as part of a pedagogical institution of informal education with a view to implementing the health continuing education policy and health reform in the state of Sergipe. A case study was accomplished in a mainly qualitative research, which analyzed data about authors’ workshops and didactic and pedagogical material validation, constituent stages of methodological structure of the production of didactical materials, beyond data collected in semi-structured interviews with managers, and focus group with authors of textbooks. The didactical material of SES Sergipe has as its basis the Health Policies of SUS (Unified Health System) in Sergipe, trying to be a communication vehicle of ideological conceptions and technology foundations necessary for the implementation of SUS in the state context. The State Department of Health takes as a central policy the Health and Management Reform of SUS in the state of Sergipe, a project that involves large investment in the organization and functioning of the health system presupposing a review of productive processes, and professional qualification of the workers directly involved with the changes to be implemented. Analysis of data from authors’ workshops and pedagogical validation showed that the books allowed into their development process linking between the science and the creative intuition, between the technique and the art, seeking, in several coherent pedagogies among themselves, with an ideological point of view, elements that could be recomposed, recombined, reinterpreted in a specific production. The didactical material as a vehicle of pedagogical ideas makes health policy into textbooks, trying to awake militancy, investing in reflective processes built around the technological knowledge to everyday operation of services, and ideological conceptions related to the Unified Health System. Limits and possibilities of the didactic and pedagogical materials organized by SES as a pedagogical institution of informal education appears in the authors’ and managers’ speech as a relationship of tension between the assistance mission and the pedagogical mission to be performed. Limits and possibilities are intertwined by a confrontation relationship, where the limit to be exceeded, or understood about a dialectical perspective becomes a possibility. The practice appears as a large possibility in the whole process, emphasized by the participation of those ones who are in the front of the theorization required by the formulation of the books. The research reflects on the implementation of continuing education policy to be operated with the use of didactical material and the importance of pedagogical agents in their technical and political role.
