Introduction: manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is considered an integral part of the lymphatic edema treatment after plastic surgery. However, there is little scientific evidences. Objective: Evaluate the effect of lymphatic drainage in women undergoing thighs dermolipectomy after bariatric surgery. Methods: The sample included 20 women, aged between 20 and 60 years, randomly divided in 02 groups with 10 patients. 06 manual lymphatic drainage sessions were made in the study group patients (7, 9, 14, 16, 21 and 23 PO). The drainage lasted 20 minutes on each leg and was made 02 times a week. Before each session, the thigh circumference measurements were made in three segments (proximal, medial and distal), with a measure tape. Then, measurements of the weight and pain (through visual numerical scale) were made. In control group patients, the MLD was made after 28 PO. The measurements were performed in the same spots, which were, 5cm below the greater trochanter of the femur, 5 cm above the patella and in the center line between these measures. Results: 19 patients were analyzed, 9 of the control group and 10 of the study group. Compared to the control group, the study group showed significant pain improvement (p <0.001). There was no significant difference between groups in the evaluation of legs lymphatic edema. Conclusion: MLD has improved the symptoms of pain, but there was no improvement in the edema after 23 days after surgery.
