This situation was brought up by the construction of a clinical case of a young woman seen at a private psychoanalytical office, according to the investigation method employed at the Laboratory of Fundamental Psychopathology of the Department of Graduate Studies in Clinical Psychology of the Catholic University of São Paulo - PUC-SP. The purpose of this work is, hence, to reflect upon the handling of the question directed to the analyst, in its relation with the clinical consensus of not responding to the patient s demand. Such relation is manifested in the attitude, usually taken by the analyst, of exempting from answering the patient s questions, because this would be equivalent to not responding to the patient s demand. In order to discuss this attitude, and its effect on the analysis process, the notion of demand in Jacques Lacan s work was investigated. We have come to the conclusion that there are certain clinical situations which require the strategy of answering the question, in order to reveal the demand that underlies it / Esta dissertação de mestrado trata da situação clínica na qual o paciente insiste em fazer perguntas diretas ao analista.
