In it we present, through the analysis of documents published at that time, the path taken by Leavitt to find such a relationship as well as presenting the context in which research is embedded Leavitt. The relationship found by Leavitt had an important use in astronomy, since through it was possible to estimate the distance between stars and galaxies / Este estudo tem como foco de análise a relação período-luminosidade para estrelas variáveis encontrada por Henrietta Swan Leavitt no início do século XX.
