La prevalencia de enfermedades neurodegenerativas en los adultos mayores, constituyen un reto para quienes ejercen el rol de cuidador. La presente investigación tuvo como finalidad analizar las posibles relaciones de la sobrecarga con la resiliencia y la salud mental en 80 cuidadores formales de adultos mayores con enfermedades neurodegenerativas. Se utilizó la Escala de Sobrecarga de Zarit (Zarit et al., 1980), la Escala de Depresión, Ansiedad y Estrés 21 (Lovibond y Lovibond, 1995) y Escala de Resiliencia (Connor- Davidson, 2003). Entre los principales hallazgos, se destaca la presencia de niveles bajos (ausencia y leve) de sintomatología clínica en los cuidadores formales. Respecto al objetivo general, la sobrecarga mostró una asociación significativa con la salud mental y sus escalas, siendo la correlación más fuerte con el área de estrés. Asimismo, no se obtuvo una relación significativa con la resiliencia. En cuanto a la resiliencia, esta evidenció una correlación significativa e inversa con el malestar emocional (polo opuesto de la salud mental) y sus escalas, a excepción del estrés. Por otro lado, en cuanto a los objetivos específicos, los resultados evidencian variaciones en la sobrecarga en relación a la edad del cuidador (r= .22, p< .01). En esta misma línea, se encontraron diferencias en cuanto a la salud mental y la cantidad de cursos de especialización que ha tenido el cuidador. Finalmente, se hallaron diferencias significativas en la resiliencia según el tiempo que se viene laborando como cuidador. / The prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases in older adults is a challenge for those who exercise the role of caregivers. This research aims to analyze the possible relationships of caregiver burden with resilience and mental health in formal caregivers of older adults with neurodegenerative diseases. Zarit Burden Scale (Zarit et al., 1980), the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale 21 (Lovibond and Lovibond, 1995) and the Resilience Scale (Connor-Davidson, 2003) was used for measurement. Among the main findings, according to the descriptive analyses, it stands out the presence of low levels (absence, mild) of clinical symptoms in formal caregivers. Regarding the general objective, caregiver burden showed a significant association with mental health and its scales, with the strongest correlation being the area of stress. Additionally, a significant relationship with resilience was not obtained. Regarding resilience, it showed a significant and inverse correlation with mental health and its scales, with the exception of stress. On the other hand, regarding the specific objectives, the results show variations in the caregiver burden in relation to the age of the caregiver (r= .22, p< .01). Furthermore, differences were found in terms of mental health and the number of specialization courses that the caregiver has had. Finally, significant differences were found in resilience according to the time that the person has been working as a caregiver.
