Polarized lithium-6 and carbon-12 scattering at 30 and 50 MeV

A complete set of analyzing powers ($iT\sb{\it 11},\ T\sb{\it 20},\ T\sb{\it 21}$, and $T\sb{\it 22}$) for 50 MeV $\sp{12}\rm C(\sp6Li,\sp6Li)\sp{12}$C scattering has been taken at the FSU Nuclear Accelerator Laboratory using the optically pumped polarized lithium ion source (OPPLIS). Cross sections and analyzing powers (AP) for the elastic and the $\sp{12}$C inelastic 2$\sp+$ (4.44 MeV), 0$\sp+$ (7.65 MeV), and 3$\sp-$ (9.64 MeV) states over the center of mass (c.m.) angular range 10$\sp\circ$-115$\sp\circ$ are presented. A combined analysis of the 50 MeV data, and data previously taken at 30 MeV, has been carried out using the coupled channels code scFRESCO. / The coupled channels calculations use an optical potential with double folded (DF) real central, Woods-Saxon imaginary central, and Thomas real spin-orbit potentials. Calculations include reorientation terms and coupling to the first three excited states of $\sp6$Li and the first two non-zero spin states of $\sp{12}$C. The coupling strength parameters were set by measuring the $\sp6$Li excited state cross sections using the inverse reaction $\sp6$Li($\sp{12}$C,$\sp{12}$C)$\sp6$Li at 100 MeV. / The elastic cross sections and AP are described well. The need for an explicit spin-orbit term is apparent in the elastic and inelastic $iT\sb{\it 11}$, more so at 30 MeV than at 50 MeV. The rank-2 AP up to 50$\sp\circ\rm \sb{c.m.}$ arise mainly from ground state reorientation effects. The $\sp{12}$C(2$\sp+$) cross section is under estimated at large angles. The $\sp{12}$C(2$\sp+$) and $\sp{12}$C(3$\sp-)iT\sb{\it 11}$ are not well reproduced. The most important channel coupling is to the $\sp{12}$C(2$\sp+$) state. High spin states in neodymium-143 and samarium-145

The nuclear structures of $\sp{143}$Nd and $\sp{145}$Sm were investigated using the techniques of $\gamma$-ray and conversion electron spectroscopy. Level schemes were established for $\sp{143}$Nd and $\sp{145}$Sm using data obtained from $\gamma-\gamma$ coincidence, angular distribution and conversion electron experiments. / The $\sp{143}$Nd nucleus was produced from the heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction $\sp{130}$Te($\sp{18}$O, 5n) at a beam energy of 85 MeV. A total of 46 new transitions and 27 new levels, which range from 3.6 MeV to 10.8 MeV in excitation energy, were placed in the level scheme of $\sp{143}$Nd. / The reaction $\sp{138}$Ba($\sp{12}$C, 5n) at a beam energy of 76 MeV was used in producing the $\sp{145}$Sm nucleus. The level scheme includes 22 new $\gamma$-rays and $\gamma / Tentative spins assignments were made to new states in both nuclei from DCO ratios extracted from $\gamma-\gamma$ coincidence data. Angular distribution and conversion electron measurements were used in confirming previous spin and parity assignments. / The spectra are discussed in the framework of the weak coupling model and the empirical shell model.
