It has as a source of analysis information collected through participant observation of the ethnographic method. It poses a position in the personal trajectories; on the impressions and opinions of people; in the registers on newspapers and in the relations with the religious, political and governmental institutions. It was emphasized the group of elements which support their organization, such as: the living conditions of the occupants, the day-to-day activities of the Occupation and the political-theoretical structure of the organization. The Occupation of Pinheirinho set the debate on the issue of private property and challenged the Public Administration leaders in São José dos Campos. It enabled the organization of social and political powers in a collective manner, reached through the process of demands regarding social rights. It became important for the life of the occupants, especially, to provide for the need of housing. The conscience of class and solidarity built during the Occupation favored the organization of the occupants, for they took their place in the fight of classes and in the history of the city. It allowed the occupants to create a political project with a conscientious direction due to social transformation. Between their limits and possibilities it was left for the Occupation the challenge of organization to extrapolate the fight for social rights and search for human and political emancipation, essentially around the issue of private property / O presente trabalho analisa, no período de março de 2007 a março de 2009, a organização e a sustentação de uma Ocupação do Movimento Sem Teto na cidade de São José dos Campos. Tem como fonte de análise as informações colhidas através da observação participante do método etnográfico. Assume uma posição nas trajetórias pessoais; nas impressões e opiniões das pessoas; nos registros em jornais e nas relações com instituições religiosas, políticas e governamentais. Destacou o conjunto de elementos que mantém a sua organização, quais sejam: as condições de vida dos ocupantes, o cotidiano da Ocupação e a estrutura de organização teórico-política. A Ocupação do Pinheirinho colocou em debate a questão da propriedade privada e confrontou os dirigentes da Administração Pública em São José dos Campos. Possibilitou a organização de forças sociais e políticas de forma coletiva, alcançadas com o processo de reivindicações acerca dos direitos sociais. Tornou-se importante na vida dos ocupantes, especialmente, por suprir a necessidade da moradia. A consciência de classe e a solidariedade construídas na Ocupação favoreceram a organização dos ocupantes, por apoderarem-se do seu lugar na luta de classes e na história do município. Permitiu aos ocupantes a elaboração de um projeto político com uma direção consciente em função da transformação social. Dentre seus limites e possibilidades ficou à Ocupação o desafio de organização para extrapolar a luta por direitos sociais e buscar a emancipação política e humana, essencialmente em torno da questão da propriedade privada
