Estudo clínico e histopatologico da aplicação do polimetilmetacrilato (PMMA) em ratos

Jesus, Luciano Henrique de January 2011 (has links)
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate clinical and hitopathology the reaction of the fill material at two different sites. Method: Twenty-two female Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) submitted the application of PMMA testing two techniques: subcutaneous and trans. After 3 months of surgery, the rats were euthanized and the injected areas were excised, subjected to paraffin embedding technique and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The slides were analyzed by observing the local response to injection of foreign body in the degree of inflammation. Results: We found statistically significant differences between sites and subdermal muscle as granuloma formation (p <0.05), and the subdermal group achieved better results. Conclusion: The application of filling materials, which causes more injury and bleeding in the tissues, is Casusa of adverse reactions.

Localized Expansion of Pedicle Screws for Increased Stability and Safety in the Osteoporotic Spine

Shea, Thomas Michael 06 July 2014 (has links)
When a patient is diagnosed with various spinal injuries, deformities, or advanced degeneration, it is commonly suggested that he/she undergoes surgery for spinal fusion. Most current procedures in spinal fusion restrict mobility in one or multiple levels of the spine so that, over time, new bone will grow between the levels creating a single motionless unit of bone. The bilateral pedicle screw system (BPSS) has long been considered to be the "gold standard" in spinal fusion. However, for patients with osteoporosis, adequate fixation within the bone-screw interface has continuously been difficult to achieve or has come with high risk of other forms of catastrophic damage. Reflecting this, a new pedicle screw design was developed and evaluated against current standard pedicle screws commonly used in spinal surgery. All screw designs were also tested with a common cement augmentation technique surrounding the circumference of the screw. All tests measured pullout strength, stiffness, energy to failure, toughness, and the amount of destruction to the surrounding synthetic bone. While the newly designed pedicle screw failed to produce significantly stronger pullout forces in comparison to the standard screws, it did show evidence of a longer lasting residual axial resistance and a safer mode of failure than the standard screw, hinting that the design may benefit individuals who experience screw pullout and are awaiting reinstrumentation.

The influence of powder liquid ratio on the flexural strength of fibre reinforced acrylic resin material

Du Rand, Marlene January 2007 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Dental Technology Discipline))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2007 / Practitioners often modify the powder:liquid ratio of polymethyl methacrylate resins (PMMA) to improve the handling properties of the material for certain procedures or because of personal preferences. While it is known that this influences the mechanical properties of unreinforced resin materials, little is known about its effect on glass fibre reinforced PMMA resin.

Viskoelasticita polymerních skel / Viscoelasticity of polymer glasses

Ondreáš, František January 2014 (has links)
This work focuses on polymer glasses relaxation behavior. Polymethylmethacrylate was chosen as a typical representative of polymer glasses. Relaxation processes were studied by dynamical mechanical spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry was used as a supplemental analysis. Relaxation process above Tg and high values of rubberlike plateau modulus were observed in thermomechanical spectra. High temperature relaxation transition was studied from the perspective of thermal history, frequency and axial stress dependence and influence of molecular structure was also investigated. Apparent activation energies of studied processes and their axial stress dependence for polymethylmethacrylate were determined. On the basis of obtained data, a hypothesis was developed which connects high temperature relaxation process with molecular process responsible for strain hardening.
