UPLATNĚNÍ SHETLANDSKÝCH KONÍ V OBLASTI JIŽNÍCH ČECH / The Use of Shetland Horses in the Area of South Bohemia

BLAHOVCOVÁ, Andrea January 2008 (has links)
The aim of the thesis was to find out what is the population of the Shetland ponies in the Czech Republic. The uncertain pedigree of these ponies is a big problem; there are only 40% of ponies with pedigree. The thesis concentrated on the investigation of differences between the ponies with pedigree and the ones without it, on the investigation of differences of basic physical measurements of stallions and mares. Another inquiry was the numbers of Shetland ponies in particular regions with a special attention to the region of South Bohemia. The comparison of judging of the externals of Shetland ponies by individual horse breeding inspectors was a separate point. The source material was provided by the Association of Horse Breeder{\crq}s Union. Data and results were processed in MC Excel. In the linear description ponies with pedigree reach better value in the evaluation of type and length of steps, in other parts the evaluation almost overlaps. The overall characteristics are evaluated on average by half a point better with ponies with pedigree. In the physical measurements a difference in KVH and KVP was detected where ponies with pedigree are clearly shorter, in OH and Ohol the difference between ponies with pedigree and without pedigree was inconsiderable. There is also a size difference between stallions and mares of the Shetland pony, KVH and KVP of stallions is clearly lower, the chest perimeter is also clearly smaller. On the contrary the shin perimeter of stallions is slightly higher. The investigation of numbers in regions showed that the Central Bohemian region abounds in most Shetland ponies, followed by Prague, region Usti, region Zlin and region Plzen. On the contrary the poorest region is Pardubice, the South Moravian region and Vysočina Region. There are not many Shetland ponies in South Bohemia either, 17 ponies are registered here out of which six are with pedigree. Another seven ponies were randomly found outside the register that correspond the breeding standard. During the judging of the externals of the Shetland ponies by individual horse breeding inspectors a considerable range in judging of some parts of the linear description was discovered, sometimes even by a point less ore more, which proves a more frequent use of various points by individual inspectors. In the overall characteristics the difference between individual inspectors was up to three quarters of a point.

The Whole as a Result of Its Parts: Assembly in Aaron Copland's Score for The Red Pony

McGinney, William Lawrence 05 1900 (has links)
Aaron Copland's music for The Red Pony (1948-49), based on John Steinbeck's story collection, is probably the best known of his film scores. The effectiveness of The Red Pony score stems from Copland's belief that film music should be subordinate to the film it accompanies. Copland composed The Red Pony score using his self-described method of "assembly," augmenting this process with devices to synchronize the music with the picture. Examination of archival sources shows how the score reflects the acknowledged influence of Igor Stravinsky, the needs of the film medium, and the plot of The Red Pony specifically. Despite Copland's modern style characteristics, the music functions much like a conventional Hollywood film score.

Adventure travel and sustainable tourism development in Lesotho : the case of pony trekking.

Mohasi, Lieketseng. January 1999 (has links)
Tourism in Lesotho reached a peak in the mid-1970's, based upon the opening of modern hotels and casinos in Maseru and the attraction of gambling. This was an activity which was not then available in the neighbouring country of the Republic of South Africa. Casinos became Lesotho's dominant tourist product. The legalising of gambling in South Africa increased competition in the casino market and Lesotho could therefore no longer capitalise on casinos. Furthermore, the casinos in the country were externally owned and controlled. This form of tourism was therefore not economically viable for the greater proportion of the host population because most of the revenue generated drained back to parent countries. As a result, the strategy for tourism development shifted to the development of natural environment, landscape and outdoor pursuits such as pony trekking. Pony trekking became popular in the late 1970's and has since become one of the most important tourist products of the country. In the 1980's community pony trekking associations were established. These pony trekking initiatives were identified as one development option that could provide economic opportunities for rural communities where few other opportunities exist. The purpose of this study is to examine whether pony trekking initiatives in Lesotho can yield maximum possible economic, social and environmental benefits for the present and future host communities. While investigating its potential to meet the needs of host communities for improved living standards, it also examines whether this tourist product satisfies the demands and expectations of visitors. The field work described in this dissertation was carried out in three pony trekking centres, namely: the government owned Basotho Pony Trekking Centre located at Molimo-Nthuse in the Maseru district; the privately owned Malealea Pony Trekking Centre at Malealea in the Mafeteng district; and the community owned- Khohlonts'o Pony Trekking Centre at III Bokong in the Thaba-Tseka district. This study has revealed that pony trekking activities provide substantial socio- economic opportunities for local communities along the trek routes and around the trekking centres, from the renting of overnight facilities and horses, the production and selling of crafts and tour guiding by local people. Furthermore, the majority of members of pony trekking associations surveyed revealed high support for the activity due to the economic benefits. It was also found that the demands of the majority of visitors are being met. They were satisfied with the facilities and services offered in these centres and regarded public reception as being good. Though pony trekking contributes to social upliftment of the host communities, it is found, however, that there are major drawbacks. The survey indicates that at present limited number of people are involved or participate in pony trekking associations. Not only that, but even communities that are directly involved in pony trekking associations do not have control of such initiatives. Further, the survey shows that there is insufficient community capacity building and lack of government involvement in funding in the investment in infrastructure. Finally, the potential to attract more visitors remains relatively untapped due to a lack of proper marketing strategies; a lack of integrated marketing efforts in promotional campaigns; and weak advertising of the product between the public and private sectors. On the basis of these findings suggestions are made for further improvement. These include, firstly, a need to launch education and awareness programmes on the important role that tourism can play in socio-economic development of the communities. Secondly, more opportunities for the local population and new areas for pony trekking development should be opened. Finally, stronger support, from both the government and private firms for the tourist industry is needed. / Thesis (M.Sc.)-University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 1999.

Zhodnocení chovu velšských pony v České republice

Píšová, Markéta January 2014 (has links)
This work evaluates the movement of the Welsh pony breed in the Czech republic.. The aim was to evaluate numbers of population, evaluate the movement in walk and trot and evaluate the linear score trait. Basic parameters were measured (length of stride in walk, length of stride in trot and the frequency). For this evaluation the following effects were chosen: sex, breed section, country of origin and scapula angle. 348 individuals of the Welsh Pony and Cob breeds were entered into the database for linear score and 80 individuals of the Welsh Pony and Cob breeds were entered into database for movement evaluated, of which 20 animals were section A and 20 animals section B, 20 animals section D and 20 animals section D. We measured the data with a laser measure and a special pedometer in the Czech republic, the Netherlands and The Great Britain. The relationship between the length of stride in walk and trot was investigated in comparison to the wither height, the animal's sex, its country of origin, breed section and the angle of the scapula. A conclusive (P less than or equal to 0,05) influence was also observed for the effect of section. By comparing the spaciousness in walk and trot according to the chosen effects of sex, scapula angle, adherence to section and country of origin, we proved a highly conclusive (P less than or equal to 0, 01) influence of the scapula angle and a conclusive (P less than or equal to 0, 05) influence between section A and D, section B and D, section A and B, A and WPBR and B and WPBR. Multiple comparisons showed a conclusive difference in the effect section for sklon a tvar zádě. The length and type of back was conclusive difference for the effect sex, include the traits back, pastern and loins for effect age.
