Esta dissertação aborda a dimensão pública da arquitetura tendo como objeto de estudo dois projetos de edifícios culturais situados no Vale do Anhangabaú: a Praça das Artes, concebida pelo escritório Brasil Arquitetura em parceria com a Secretaria de Cultura do Município; e o Centro Cultural dos Correios, projetado pelo UNA arquitetos. Centrada na análise de projetos, o intuito da presente pesquisa é identificar a contribuição desses equipamentos culturais ao complexo processo de transformação da área central da cidade, e a importância da intervenção arquitetônica no patrimônio histórico nesse processo. O trabalho propõe uma sistematização e interpretação crítica dos princípios da prática arquitetônica do centro de São Paulo, e apresenta novos caminhos para o desenho de intervenções no patrimônio edificado que estejam comprometidas com a arquitetura de seu tempo. / This dissertation analyses the public dimension of architecture using two cultural buildings in the Vale of Anhangabaú as case studies: The Praça das Artes, conceived by the Brasil Arquitetura architecture firm in partnership with the São Paulo City Secretary of Culture, and the Centro Cultural dos Correios, designed by UNA Architects. Employing architectural project analysis, the goal of this research is to identify the contribution of such cultural edifices to the complex process of transformation of São Paulo\'s city centre, as well as the relevance of architectural interventions in the city\'s historical heritage. This research offers a systematic review and a critical interpretation of the recent architectural practices in the São Paulo city centre. It also suggests new ways for designing interventions in heritage buildings, which are committed to the architecture of previous epochs.

Two projects have been selected: the Praça das Artes Building, in São Paulo, with part of its construction concluded in 2012, and the Museu do Amanhã, located in Rio de Janeiro, finished in 2015. Both buildings are located in areas of Urban Operation determined by the municipalities, and were built after the 2000s, aiming to meet the needs of the population and revitalize central areas. To study them, field researches were carried out, as well as informal interviews, and reflections on themes addressed by authors such as Lynch, Peixoto, Zonno and Gehl on the city dynamics and the development of the landscape. The shape created and its reactions were discussed. So were observations on its design according to Flusser, Denis and Ching, the perception approach in Merleau-Ponty and Bachelard, and the space according to Massey and Krauss. It then becomes possible to understand how these architectural structures and individuals behave in their surroundings, interacting with the visuality created and forming a "living city" to some extent. / Esta dissertação observa a paisagem urbana em sua forma, na medida em que ela pode interferir na percepção e vivência dos habitantes das cidades contemporâneas. Foram selecionados dois projetos: o Edifício Praça das Artes, em São Paulo, com parte de sua construção finalizada em 2012, e o Museu do Amanhã, situado no Rio de Janeiro, concluído em 2015. Ambos se localizam em áreas de Operação Urbana determinadas pela Prefeitura, e foram construídos após os anos 2000, com a proposta de atender necessidades da população e revitalizar regiões centrais. Para estudá-las, foram feitas pesquisas de campo, entrevistas informais, e reflexões sobre temas abordados por autores como Lynch, Peixoto, Zonno e Gehl quanto à dinâmica da cidade e o desenvolvimento da paisagem. Discutiram-se a forma criada e suas reações, além de observações acerca de seu design à luz de Flusser, Denis e Ching, a abordagem da percepção em Merleau-Ponty e Bachelard, e o espaço em Massey e Krauss. Torna-se então, possível compreender como se comportam tais estruturas arquitetônicas e indivíduos em seu entorno, interagindo com a visualidade criada e formando uma "cidade viva", em certa medida.
