La problématique exposée ici suggère un rapprochement entre la théorie du confort et les sciences de l’habiter, en supposant que le confort est l’une des composantes (non exclusive) de l’habitabilité des lieux publics et que sa construction est liée à l’acte d’habiter. Considérant que le confort est à la fois construit et pratiqué par ceux qui habitent les lieux publics, nous avons proposé une approche du confort multidimensionnelle et située. Notre analyse du confort dans les lieux publics est fondée sur cinq dimensions qui le caractérisent. Nous les avons identifiées comme étant celle du corps, celle liée à l’usage, la dimension esthétique, la dimension symbolique, et celle rattachée à la sociabilité. Ces cinq dimensions du confort se manifestent avec des intensités plus ou moins variables dans deux temporalités distinctes, celle de l’immédiat et celle d’une mémoire du confortable et de l’inconfortable. L’identification de ces éléments composants de la notion de confort est nécessairement fondée sur l’observation in-situ. Ainsi, de part la mise en application de notre méthode d’observation itérative dans trois lieux publics, un ensemble de figures a été identifié. Ces figures suivent alors la logique des cinq dimensions du confort, et s’ordonnent selon celles-ci. / This research suggest a link between comfort theory and sciences of living, assuming that comfort is one of the components of the habitability of public places and that its construction is related to the act of living. Considering that comfort is built and practiced at the same time by those who live in the public places, we propose a multidimensional approach of comfort. Five dimensions appear as relevant (and necessary) in the analysis of comfort in public places: the one of the body, the one attached to the use itself, an aesthetic dimension, a symbolic dimension, and the one related to the sociability. These five dimensions of comfort show themselves with more or less variable intensities in two different temporalities, the immediate and the memory of comfortable and uncomfortable. The identification of these components of comfort is inevitably established by the in situ observation. That’s why, through the application of our method of iterative observation in three public places, a set of figures was identified. Then, these figures follow the logic of five dimensions of comfort, and organize themselves according to the five dimensions.
