A sindrome da tensão pre-menstrual : uma abordagem psicanalitica

Zoldan, Vera Aparecida de Carvalho 16 February 2001 (has links)
Orientador: Luiz Carlos Tarello / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-07-31T20:23:53Z (GMT). The interest for this research is guided on the questions appeared in the psychoanalytic clinic, starting from the attendance of Premenstrual Tension Syndrome (PMTS) patients victims and their symptomatic manifestations, not only physics, but predominantly psychic. Although it is considered by the medicine as a resulting disease of the organic and hormonal alterations associated to the feminine reproducer cycle, the psychoanalytic analysis reveals the existence of particularly intimate and complex relationships between the menstruation and the psychic elaboration of the feminine position, as well as an evident association of the symptoms told by patients with PMTS and the personal conflicts lived by them, related their own sexuality. With the objective of to investigate the relationships between the psychic experience of the corporal processes associated to the menstrual cycle and the subjective elaboration of the feminine position, a psychoanalytic analysis of the premenstrual symptoms was developed, starting from medical definitions and cultural significances about the feminine sexuality. The revision of the medicalliterature on PMTS revealed that the symptomatic manifestations emerge such as enigma under several aspects, always appearing associated to factors of emotional order. Through the analysis of the feminine significances relating to myth, to religion and science, the symbolic support function of the menstruation was revealed in relation to the cultural representation of the feminine sexuality, whose different approaches, through the time, appear as effect of successive significant articulations. So much the cultural conceptions, as the patients' speeches of their symptoms, reveal a perception of the femininity such as enigma, whose unconscious manifestation appears associated to the femininereproducer cycle. This enigmatic condition was interpreted inside of the psychoanalytic theory, as a result of the impossibility of feminine body symbolization, due to an absence of the significant of the femininity, that forces the woman to search for a possible symbolization, through maternity. Nevertheless, this symbolic resolution by maternity, just makes possible a partial elaboration of the feminine castration, whose access depends of the particular conditions of body symbolization for each woman. So, it was reached the conclusion that the symptoms of PMTS appear as a psychic exacerbation, unchained by the organic existence of corporal processes related to procreation, due to the difficulty of symbolization of feminine sexuality, through maternity / Mestrado / Ciencias Biomedicas / Mestre em Ciências Médicas

A study of the need for pre-schools in Umlazi

Sibisi, Ruby Mirriam January 1989 (has links)
Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Education in the Department of Educational Planning and Administration, University of Zululand, 1989. / The inadequacy of pre-schools in the Umlazi area poses a big problem for teachers and parents in the community. The writer being involved with a large number of schools, felt that the work of the teacher, especially in Sub-A, would be much easier if most of the children attended pre-schools before entering formal classes. A pre-scholar gets to primary school wide awake with a lot of experiences which contribute a great deal to primary school education. Since the researcher is convinced about the need of more pre-schools at Umlazi, an investigation on the study was done. Firstly, it was to find out about the performance of pre-scholars from the teachers concerned, in the lower primary schools. Secondly, the study had to involve parents in finding out whether they were in favour of pre-schools and what the reasons were. Thirdly, an observation was made of the existing few pre-schools, and the personnel were interviewed and response recorded in this study. One hundred and fifty (150) teachers were used as a sample. These were Sub-A, S.S.B., Standard 1 and Standard 2 teachers. Another population of 100 parents comprising various careers or professions was used. Two types of questionnaires were administered, one to the teachers and the other to the parents to determine the need and effects of pre-school education on children. Five pre-schools were personally observed. Principals and teachers were verbally interviewed. Data was collected and analysed manually by the researcher. The analysis of the results reflected that, over 50% of teachers stated that a pre-scholar was easily taught in class, and would prefer admitting more of such children. Most parents were eager to send their children who were under 5 years to pre-school, but these institutions were very few. They recommended that, the number of these be increased and be spread out in the Umlazi area for every child to be admitted in a nearby pre-school. The principals of the existing pre-schools stated that they were working under difficult conditions. There was overcrowding of children, the problem of unqualified teachers, and very low salary scales. The present situation could only improve if the government or the Department of Education and Culture (Kwa-Zulu) would register and subsidise the institutions. Finally, this investigation proved that there is a need for pre-schools in the Umlazi area. A number of suggestions are given with the hope that, if implemented, the Umlazi community will benefit thereby.

The distribution of liability in terms of pre-incorporation contracts

De Waal, Elizma 31 May 2021 (has links)
This dissertation deals with the aspect of pre-incorporation contracts and the uneven distribution of the liability in instances where a pre-incorporation contract is not ratified by the directors, whether partially or fully, or where the company is not incorporated. The legislature went from one extreme to the next in its attempt to correct the disparity regarding who bears the liability in these transactions. Under the previous Companies Act 61 of 1973, in cases of non-incorporation of a company or non-ratification of a pre-incorporation contract, the third party bore all the risk and liability when these contracts fell through. This position was unfairly skewed in favor of the promoter and the pre-incorporation company, as they were left with the option of contracting with various persons and not having to honor their obligations when the company was indeed incorporated. This left the third party with no sustainability and assurance. Legislature shifted from a position in law where the third party bore all the liability in these instances to a position to where the promoter bears all the liability, and the company is not even considered regarding bearing some of the liability. This great disparity needs to be addressed in our law. Under the new Companies Act 71 of 2008, legislature shifted the liability onus completely onto the promoter who now is placed in the position where he would bear the full liability in these instances. This new position again does not promote equality or fairness as the third party and company now bear no responsibility. The promoter is in effect forced to bear the liability for a pre-incorporation company that has mandated him to act on their behalf, and in most cases are not related to the company itself. There needs to be a proper control mechanism and/or distribution of liability which would require a fact-based inquiry as to who is responsible for the non-incorporation of the company and/or non-ratification of the concluded contract, especially in instances where the promoter is completely independent of the company. The objective of my research is to conduct an investigation into the essence of a pre-incorporation contract, under the old and the new Companies Act, together with the essential elements thereof to find a workable solution to a variety of the problems we face in the practical aspects of the conclusion of these types of contracts. There will be a specific concentration on the liability aspects in cases of non-ratification and non-incorporation to equalize the playing field of all the relevant parties. After having ascertained the proper position under South African law, I will turn to comparative research regarding how foreign jurisdictions are addressing the problems that we face, to shape and produce a workable proposal for these instances. / Mini Dissertation (LLM (Corporate and Commercial Law))--University of Pretoria, 2021. / Mercantile Law / LLM (Corporate and Commercial Law) / Unrestricted

A study of Junior Primary School teachers' perceptions of pre-school education

Ngcobo, Generosa Celani. January 1998 (has links)
Submitted to the Faculty of Education in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Education, in the Department of Educational Psychology and Special Education at the University of Zululand, 1998. / This study investigates junior primary school teachers' perceptions of pre¬school education. The aim was to find out if these teachers perceive a positive relationship between pre-school education and learners' performance at junior primary school level. The second aim was to establish the relationship, if any, between junior primary school teachers' age and perception of influence of pre-school education. The third aim was to establish the relationship between junior primary school teachers' experience and perception of influence of pre-school education. The fourth aim was to establish the relationship between junior primary school teachers' qualifications and perception of influence of pre-school education. To this end, a questionnaire was administered to a representative sample of junior primary school teachers at Eshowe District of education. The present study revealed that junior primary school teachers agree that pre-school education has positive influence on learners' performance at junior primary school. Children who have attended pre-school before admission to junior primary school often do better. There is a relationship between teachers' age and perception of influence of pre-school education. There is relationship between teachers' experience and perception of influence of pre-school education. Findings revealed that teachers who are better qualified, younger and less experienced show support for pre-school education. Less qualified, older and more experienced teachers do not favour pre-school education.

The association between placental human papillomavirus detection and pre-eclampsia in adult women giving birth in two academic hospitals in Johannesburg

Retief, Pieter Francois January 2017 (has links)
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Medicine in the branch of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Johannesburg, 2017. / Background and objectives Evidence supporting an association between HPV infection and pre-eclampsia has recently been published. Pre-eclampsia is a common, serious complication of pregnancy of complex aetiology that to date has not been fully described. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a ubiquitous, DNA-virus with tropism for human mucosal commonly found in the female genital tract. Association between placental HPV infection and preterm labour and pregnancy loss has previously been described. This study tested the hypothesis that an association exists between HPV in the placenta or the cervix and clinical pre-eclampsia, or levels of its associated biomarkers, soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase (sFLT1) and placental growth factor (PlGF). Methods Women with pre-eclampsia were matched to healthy controls. All subjects were delivered by caesarean section, and cervical and placental samples were collected at the time of delivery. These samples were tested for HPV using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. Serum levels of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase (sFLT1) and placental growth factor (PlGF) at the time of delivery were tested. Placental and cervical HPV was compared to the outcomes of clinical pre-eclampsia and serum sFLT1 and PlGF levels. Results and conclusion While clinically apparent disease was associated with increased levels of sFLT1 and decreased levels of PlGF, HPV was not detected in any of the placental specimens using the PCR assay. As a result, no association was found between placental HPV detection and clinically apparent pre-eclampsia or deranged serum levels of sFLT1 or PlGF. HPV was very common in cervical samples and showed a non-significant trend towards negative association with clinical pre-eclampsia and sFLT1, and a positive association with PlGF. This may be an effect of cervical HPV infection on the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signalling system that may explain its association with miscarriage. / LG2018

Identifying the value of the ACT score as a predictor of student success in respiratory care, radiography, and nursing at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College

Parrott-Robbins, Rebecca Jon 07 August 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate—by utilizing data obtained from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) PeopleSoft database—whether the American College Testing (ACT) assessment was a predictor of student success for students who had graduated from respiratory, radiography, and nursing programs at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC). In addition, the study sought to determine whether the pre-program grade point average was a predictor of student success. The analysis was based on existing data for three random samples of 100 students each drawn from graduates of respiratory, radiography, and nursing programs for the years 2000 to 2005 for a total of 300 participants. ACT composite scores and pre-program grade point averages (GPAs) at the time of entrance along with the students’ final GPAs at the end of the program of study were obtained from the college’s database. A multiple regression analysis was performed, with final GPAs as the response variable and ACT scores and pre-program GPAs as predictors. Also, in terms of evaluating the individual contribution of each predictor, the part correlations were analyzed. The analyses were performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 16. The findings of the study indicate that the pre-program grade point averages were a stronger predictor of the final GPAs than the ACT scores. In addition, the ACT scores were not shown to be a significant predictor of the final grade point averages, after controlling for the pre-program GPAs that were recorded at the time of entry into the programs of study.
