František Siard Nosecký / František Siard NoseckýStaňková, Petra January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis focuses on František Siard Nosecký (1693 - 1753) - Czech baroque painter and on his artwork. He was born into an artistic environment. His father Jindřich Nosecký was also a painter which certainly greatly influenced his son. The majority of pieces of Siard Nosecký came into existence for Premonstratensian order into which he joined as a young man. Location of his artwork frequently corresponds with the location of his parish. His functioning is noticeable at different locations in Bohemia. However the largest space for self-fulfillment he had in Prague at Strahov in his home monastery where he spent the biggest portion of his consecrated life. In addition to acquainting with the life, work and creative inspiration of the painter, a substantial part of the thesis consists of a catalog of works that presents not only extant works but also several non-existent realizations that we learn about only from literature today.

Torre Abbey : locality, community, and society in medieval DevonJenkins, John Christopher January 2010 (has links)
Torre Abbey was a rural Premonstratensian monastery in south-east Devon. Although in many ways atypical of its order, not least in the quality and quantity of its surviving source material, Torre provides an excellent case study of how a medium-sized medieval monastery interacted with the world around it, and how the abbey itself was affected by that interaction. Divided into three broad sections, this thesis first examines the role of local landowners and others as patrons of the house in the most obvious sense, that of the bestowal of lands or other assets upon the house. Torre was relatively successful in this regard, and an examination of the architectural and archaeological record indicates a continuation of that relationship after the thirteenth century. The second section notes areas of conflict with the laity. Disputes could and did arise over both temporal and spiritual affairs, as well as through the involvement of a number of lay figures in the administration and patronage of the house. In both respects, notable incidents in the mid-fourteenth century highlight the complexities of the canons’ relationships with the secular world. These are further explored in an analysis of the abbey’s role during the Hundred Years’ War and the Wars of the Roses, two conflicts which greatly affected the locality, but required vastly differing approaches by the canons. Finally, the effect of society on the canons themselves is considered. It is possible to recover some picture of their origins, both social and geographic, as well as some idea of the size of the community in the fifteenth century, and discuss the repercussions for an understanding of monastic recruitment. Finally, the dynamic of the community over the entire history of the abbey is considered in terms of the scattered source material, utilising both architectural and documentary evidence.

Where the Gascon language enables an ethnography of 20th century society in the Aspe valleySaliou, Françoise 13 November 2017 (has links)
The center of this work, Pierre Moulia, a priest from the Premonstratensian Order, has dedicated his whole career to the Aspe Valley and its inhabitants. The premise of this study is that the Gascon society can be studied through its language. This study allows for an ethnography of 20thcentury Gascon society, in which articulating the study of the corpus in relationship to language reveals, through pragmatic and experimental research, differing ways of thinking within this agricultural society, with direct links to traditional customs and the natural environment.Six years of field work and research on the Gascon language with Father Moulia, from March 2010 to August 2015, have led to a thorough understanding of ethnology and the methods of structuring and modeling the study of the corpus. The reflective work brings Father Moulia to a deeper analysis of the society inwhich he lives and his place within it.

Schrift- und Schreibmystik : Christina von HaneKirakosian, Racha January 2014 (has links)
The subject of my thesis is a little-studied hagiographical work that gives important insights into rewriting processes and their significance in medieval textual culture. The anonymous Life of Christina of Hane, a thirteenth-century Premonstratensian nun from the Palatinate, is an example of bridal mysticism which combines the medieval tradition of the reception of the Song of Songs with hagiographic elements. A codicological and palaeographical analysis of the only manuscript shows it to be a sixteenth-century copy, but the type of mysticism and the theological questions that it discusses suggest that the text was initially composed in the thirteenth century, when Christina is thought to have lived. The theological and spiritual ideas in the text belong to the wider context of communicating the transcendental within the world. My thesis uses performative language analysis to address the problems of textuality and authorization in the Life of Christina of Hane. It yields new insights into the ways in which this mystical text makes use of hagiographic strategies, how gender and vernacular theology are linked, how liturgical elements support the text’s pragmatic nature, and how somatic spirituality is reflected on an allegorical level in the embodiment of God’s bride. An assessment of three communicative aspects – medial, narrative, and allegorical – highlights the textualization of the mystical experience. The appellative structure of Christina’s text invites the reader to engage with the text. This study provides the first comprehensive interpretation of the text on Christina of Hane. It compares it to other mystical texts, to a German–Latin prayerbook, and to a fragmentary legend about Mary Magdalene. It challenges existing judgments about Christina’s biography and offers alternative solutions founded in the latest scholarship on female mystical literature.

Milevsko. Dějiny, osobnosti, památky / Milevsko. Its history, personalities and historical monumentsDVOŘÁKOVÁ, Lenka January 2011 (has links)
The diploma thesis, entitled ?Milevsko. Its history, personalities and historical monuments?, is concerned with a South Bohemian town situated between Tábor and Písek, which is, unfortunately, quite neglected. It outlines the history of Milevsko from prehistory up to the present with respect to the latest research. More attention is paid to the foundation of Milevsko in the twelfth century and the Premonstratensian Monastery because it?s a national cultural monument which has a great importance for the town. The Thesis includes even other historical monuments and attractions which deserve attention. All accessible information about their origin, development, present condition and purpose are compiled in appropriate passages. Both cultural heritage of the town and contemporary relationship of town representatives to this heritage and their effort to restore and preserve it is presented on the basis of bibliography. The other part of the Thesis deals with famous and, till this time, not so famous personalities from this region. Information is obtained from witnesses to history and thanks to their witness it was possible to get less known or unpublished information. More attention was paid to famous personalities, with no monographs so far, because their benefit and importance in various fields are necessary to present and highlight.

POVÁLEČNÉ OBDOBÍ KLÁŠTERA TEPLÁ, 1945 - 1950 / The postwar period of the Monastery Teplá, 1945 - 1950MIKEŠOVÁ, Anna January 2010 (has links)
The work deals with the postwar period of Monastery Teplá in the years 1945 - 1950. It records the renewal of the monastery after the war and transfer of German religious and priests. Special attention is focused on the problems with the establishment of communism in the year 1948 and impact of the communist upheaval upon the life in this monastery. It is based on the archival sources and on the witnesses testimonies. The first part introduces Premonstratensian friary in the world, the first friary information in the Czech Republic, the history and the importance of the friary. The second part deals with the Monastery Teplá itself, its founders, it represents the history and the importance of the monastery. The last part is the most comprehensive and key part of the whole work. It describes the life in the monastery at the end of the Second World War and the life of the prior H. J. Tyl.
