It is a quantitative study with cross-cut type. The instrument used was a standardized questionnaire for self, application conference. The sample comprised 11,075 students. For statistical analysis, univariate analysis was used for description of variables, bivariate analysis to determine the association between them in life and use of alcohol with the chi-square test and Fisher exact test, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression to identify the multiple variables that influence the more frequent use of alcohol by students. It was found that the prevalence of use in the life of alcohol was 58.64% for the population, particularly among male students (64.42%), the nocturnal period (78.19%) and who had paid work (69.83%) with statistically significant results. The frequent use was shown to be primarily associated with males, have paid work, being in high school, the night shift, with a gap year or more of school, live with someone who drinks, have a bad relationship with his father and mother and believe that alcohol is not harmful to health. Despite regional particularities, the results of the prevalence of alcohol use in life are similar to national data on the subject. The data obtained in the multivariate analysis will reveal the main factors influencing on the frequent use of alcoholic beverages on school within the Amazon, and important information for planning of preventive actions directed to this population. / Este levantamento teve como objetivo estimar a prevalência do uso de álcool e identificar os fatores associados entre os estudantes do nível fundamental (5.ª à 8.ª séries) e médio da rede pública de ensino em 18 municípios do interior do Amazonas no período entre 2004-2006. É um estudo quantitativo com corte do tipo transversal. O instrumento utilizado foi um questionário padronizado de autopreenchimento, de aplicação coletiva. A amostra foi composta por 11.075 alunos. Na análise estatística, utilizou-se a análise univariada para descrição das variáveis estudadas, análise bivariada para verificar a associação entre elas e o uso na vida de álcool com teste do qui-quadrado e teste exato de Fisher, além da análise multivariada por meio de regressão logística múltipla para identificar as variáveis que mais influenciam o uso frequente de álcool pelos estudantes. Verificou-se que a prevalência de uso na vida do álcool foi 58,64% para a população estudada, principalmente entre os alunos do sexo masculino (64,42%), do período noturno (78,19%) e que possuíam trabalho remunerado (69,83%) com resultados estatisticamente significativos. O uso frequente mostrou-se principalmente associado com o sexo masculino, possuir trabalho remunerado, estar no ensino médio, no período noturno, com um ano ou mais de defasagem escolar, conviver com alguém que bebe, ter um relacionamento ruim com o pai e com mãe e acreditar que o álcool não faz mal à saúde. Apesar das particularidades regionais, os resultados de prevalência do uso na vida de álcool assemelham-se aos dados nacionais sobre o tema. Os dados obtidos na análise multivariada permitiram conhecer os fatores principais influenciadores sobre o uso frequente de bebidas alcoólicas dos escolares do interior do Amazonas, sendo uma informação importante para o planejamento de ações preventivas direcionadas a essa população.
