Contesting the efficient market hypothesis for the Chicago Board of Trade corn futures contract through the application of a derivative methodology

Corn production is scattered geographically over various continents, but most of it is grown in the United States. As such, the world price of corn futures contracts is largely dominated by North American corn prices as traded on the Chicago Board of Trade. In recent years, this market has been characterised by an increase in price volatility and magnitude of price movement as a result of decreasing stock levels. The development and implementation of an effective and successful derivative price risk management strategy based on the Chicago Board of Trade corn futures contract will therefore be of inestimable value to market stakeholders worldwide. The research focused on the efficient market hypothesis and the possibility of contesting this phenomenon through an application of a derivative price risk management methodology. The methodology is based on a combination of an analysis of market trends and technical oscillators with the objective of generating returns superior to that of a market benchmark. The study found that market participants are currently unable to exploit price movement in a manner which results in returns that contest the notion of efficient markets. The methodology proposed, however, does allow the user to consistently achieve returns superior to that of a predetermined market benchmark. The benchmark price for the purposes of this study was the average price offered by the market over the contract lifetime, and such, the efficient market hypothesis was successfully contested. / Business Management / D. The purpose of this diploma thesis is to use relevant economic knowledge for the analysis of the key legal aspects of the natural monopoly, particularly the main theoretical aspects thereto. The interpretation is not limited to principle features, however, it covers also the related issues. The text is focused mainly on electricity and gas industries. Apart from applicable law and legal books, the relevant case law of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Administrative Court of Czech Republic has been also a significant source of knowledge hereto. The European Union legal regulations and expert opinions of the European Commission have been taken into account as well. The diploma thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is focused on economic aspects of the applicable law. It provides thorough overview concerning the model and its introduction into reviewed fields. The principal information, historical background and view of the critics are introduced. This chapter also labels the entities under the Czech law that are considered to be the natural monopolies. Furthermore, three basic fields of legal institutes that are subject to subsequent review are outlined. The second chapter defines elementary terms relevant for further research. Work on the topic of Critical analysis of the housing in the Czech Republic, I chose to its timeliness and problematičnost. I wanted to cover all the pitfalls in the work of housing – legislation that was adopted and the resulting situation of housing on troubleshooting regulated "privileged" rents and rental market. Nastiňuji, how the State takes care of the socially weaker populations (housing) from 2009 it rose sharply citizens. Work to characterize housing in Prague, Brno and Ostrava. The objective of housing is the regulation of the hiring of total liberalisation of the real estate market for tackling I have drawn up a questionnaire, which tracks the housing facilities regions. The thesis deals with the comparison of selected methods of flat valuation in Děčín and its surroundings. The theoretical part is aimed at crucial terms, definitions and formulas and it covers the description of the area from the social, economic, cultural and historical point of view. The practical part includes the obtained data analysed by means of database and verified by the Grubbs' method. Methods employed in price determination are: price in accordance with public notes; usual price; physical value. The conclusion refers to the price comparison in accordance with employed methods and to the evaluation of the effect of reconstruction on the price of the real estate.

For solving this question will be evaluated five real estates. For the evaluations will be used these ways of evaluation: evaluation based on costs, comparing of real estates based on valid price regulation and direct comparing.

PhD thesis solves problems of mutual comparison of real estate market prices with prices found out in a comparison way according to price regulations. The thesis is focused on real estates of type housing units, flats which are found within the area of former district city Havlíčkův Brod. From time point of view, years 2009 - 2014 were solved. Within this period, first of all data collection was under way followed by grouping information on separate trading in housing units, flats. Obtained market prices were consequently confronted with prices found out in a comparison way according to relevant price regulations. Obtained results were analyzed, this analysis was focused on chosen marks and their qualitative zones at separate indexes. Upon achieved results and newly gained knowledge, partial modifications or corrections in price regulations are proposed. Another output of this thesis is a proposal for introducing new coeficients. These make provision for difference of market and found out prices of housing units, flats in area of former district city Havlíčkův Brod in years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Thanks to this, common price is possible to estimate retrospectively with the help of price regulations. At the very conclusion of the thesis, these coeficients were applied in different former district city in Vysočina Region, in concrete terms in Žďár nad Sázavou. In this way, possible use of these newly proposed coeficients was introduced in other former district cities as well which is, nevertheless, necessary to be verified in practice or subject to other research.
