Construction of Compact 3D Objects by Radial Basis Functions and Progressive Compression

Huang, Wei-Chiuan 02 February 2006 (has links)
Abstract The representation of 3D Computer Graphics has been studied for a long time. Most 3D object models are obtained by 3D scan systems. These kinds of data are not only very huge, but also have a lot of redundancy. It consumes a large mount of time and resources. For this reason, how to represent the object efficiently is always an important issue. The purpose of this study is to present the objects by implicit functions. Different with the presentation of polygon mesh, implicit function is very compact to present objects because that the mathematical form of object can be obtained in different data forms. The implicit function used is Radial Basis Function, and then the BSP tree is used to partition the object to reduce the amount of computing. We also use the compression of progressive mesh to decrease the storage and the computing time. In addition, the object can be rendered according to the sampling points on each implicit surface.

Digital Watermarking with Progressive Detection

Chang, Kai-Hsiang 08 August 2000 (has links)
In this thesis, we proposed two frequency-based watermarking algorithms. One is DCT-based method. Embedding watermark in the multi-areas and multi- frequency bands to ensure we can get a less distorted watermark sequence under unintentional circumstance. The other is DWT-based method. The parent-children relationship and the feature of bit-plane coding in the EZW algorithm are exploited to embed watermark. It makes that we can know the watermark exist or not in the progressive transmission system. The experimental results show that the proposed methods both can resist unintentional attacks. The DWT-based method also has a better progressive detection capability.

From rule to ruin: the Conservative Party of British Columbia, 1928-1954

Alper, Donald K January 1976 (has links)
In 1928 the Conservative Party of British Columbia won an impressive electoral victory, taking 35 of the 48 seats in the legislature. The victory was a comeback for Conservatives since after forming consecutive governments during the years 1903-1916, they remained in opposition from 1916-1928. The comeback, however, was not to be permanent. Five years later, in the 1933 election, the Conservative Party met disaster. Not a single candidate running with the Conservative label was elected. Although their fortunes improved in the 1937 and 1941 elections, Conservatives would not again form a government on their own in British Columbia. Throughout the 1940s they shared power in a coalition government, but in so doing the forces were set in motion which culminated in the party's collapse in the early 1950s. The party suffered a massive defeat in the 1953 election, an event which marked the end of the Conservative Party as a serious contender in the province's electoral politics since Conservatives have been unable to make a showing in provincial elections in the 21 years since. What happened to the provincial Conservatives is the question addressed in this study. How did a party which has enjoyed a history of success in both the province's federal and provincial arenas lose, almost entirely, its support base in the early 1950s? The general approach of this study is historical-interpretative. An account and interpretation of the Conservatives' fate is given through a detailed analysis of the party's internal politics. The focus is on politicians (party leaders) and their efforts to build and maintain a party clientele, their definition of goals and the strategies devised to attain them. The major theme which emerges is that the party's ultimate failure to survive as a contender in provincial politics is inextricably bound up with the internal fractionalization that continued to plague it. This study begins by examining the period when the Conservative Party was one of two major parties in British Columbia. The background of this early period is important in understanding the principal actors and political conflicts which set the context for later events. The main body of the study examines the personalities and conflicts in the party during the years 1933-1954. The years of coalition government (1941-1952) are singled out for special treatment because the chain of events precipitated by the coalition ultimately led to the party's disintegration and collapse. / Arts, Faculty of / Political Science, Department of / Graduate

An Evaluation of the Validity of Vocal Preference Assessments Used with Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Nuernberger, Jodi Elizabeth 01 August 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Preference assessments provide individuals with an opportunity to make choices and thus, increase their autonomy. Furthermore, preference assessments are used to identify stimuli that can be used as reinforcers in behavior change programs. Two studies were conducted to examine the validity of vocal preference assessments used with adults with developmental disabilities. In Study 1, the concurrent validity between vocal and stimulus paired-choice assessments, with and without activity access following a participant's selection, was evaluated. Spearman's rank correlation coefficients were computed to evaluate the correspondence between assessments. Results showed that similarity in consequence (i.e., activity access) impacted the correspondence between preference assessment results; whereas, similarity in antecedent (i.e., assessment format) did not impact the correspondence between preference assessment results. In Study 2, the predictive validity of reinforcer effectiveness of the preference assessments from Study 1 were evaluated. Specifically, the reinforcing efficacy and potency of high-preference activities were evaluated using a progressive-ratio schedule of reinforcement, within a multielement design. Results showed the preference assessments that included activity access were more likely to identify reinforcers that were effective under increasing response requirements, than were assessments that did not include activity access.

Bermejo, Ewerton da Silva January 2020 (has links)
The term PWA is used to name a hybrid methodology (regular web and mobile apps) for software development, whose main functionality is to create hybrid apps that deliver an experience similar to native apps, without having to “download” the app and / or register in the software. The method used in this study was divided into two phases: initially an exploratory survey on programming and open source languages, in order to understand the possibilities and techniques of PWA; and later the actual construction of the prototype, which included: web research on the subject “augmented reality” to compose the application, rental of a server to publish the product; evaluation of the application via the qualitative Design-Research (DBR) method; applied to 5 professionals working in the media and technology field. The construction of the prototype was carried out, consistent with the proposed methodology, it met most of the usability and accessibility requirements, indicating easy access to information, which were grouped on the topic and made available via this app. Despite the positive aspects, it was detected, because it is still in the implementation phase, the weak interactivity and proactive participation of users and the difficulty of updating and incorporating other content in a collaborative manner, which is believed to occur as far as ...

Lebbs, William C., Lebbs, William C. January 2016 (has links)

George Perkins and the Progressive Party : a Study of Divergent Goals

Cobelle, Pete W. 01 1900 (has links)
This study will focus on the role of George Perkins in the development and decline of the Progressive Party. Theodore Roosevelt is often at the center of this story for the Bull Moose and the Progressives were closely intertwined. Ultimately, the inconsistencies of the master-politician Roosevelt and the detrimental influence of Perkins contributed to the downfall of the Progressive Party of 1912.
