Exposing and Aggregating Non-functional Properties in SOA from the Perspective of the Service Consumer

Becha, Hanane January 2012 (has links)
Non-functional properties (NFPs) represent an important facet of service descriptions, especially when a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach is used. An effective SOA service development approach requires the identification, specification, implemen-tation, aggregation, management and monitoring of service-related NFPs. However, at this point in time, NFPs are either not handled at all or handled partially in proprietary ways. The goal of this thesis is to encourage their availability for use. In this thesis, the focus is on the NFPs relevant from the perspective of service consumers, in opposition to the perspective of service providers (or developers) and to multi-perspectives. In other words, the scope covers only the NFPs that need to be pub-lished to help service consumers determine whether a given service is an appropriate one for their needs (e.g., description of NFPs to be attached to the service along with the functionality description). This thesis provides the following contributions to the SOA knowledge base: definition of a domain-independent catalogue comprising 17 NFPs relevant to the descriptions of atomic services from the perspective of service consumers. These NFPs have been derived from a literature review and have been vali-dated via a two-step survey; formalization of NFP representation by defining data structures to enable quantifying and codifying them, together with a corresponding XML schema; definition, implementation and validation of algorithms to aggregate the NFPs of the composite service based on the NFPs of its underlying services, with a discussion of the NFP aggregation limitations; definition of a modeling approach for the NFP-aware selection of services, which involves aspect-oriented modeling with the User Requirements Nota-tion, in the context of SOA; integration of NFP descriptions into the Web Services Description Language (WSDL); and definition and use of the discriminator operator in service composition, to en-able the creation of fault-tolerant composite services. Overall, this work contributes to research by providing better insight on the nature, rele-vance, and composability of NFPs in a service engineering context. As for industrial im-pact, this work contributes a validated collection of NFPs with a concrete syntax and composition algorithms ready to be used for defining, selecting, and composing NFP-driven services and for evolving current SOA-related standards.

Zajištění QoS v bezdrátových sítích / QoS assurance in wireless networks

Kolmačka, Jan January 2010 (has links)
The diploma thesis gives the overall information about the field of wireless networks of standards 802.11 and Quality of Service (QoS). The practical measurements describe the reactions of multimedia dataflows in the networks 802.11a/b/g/n. The individual standards, offered services, access methods and the network architecture are analyzed in the theoretical part. In the following part there is written about QoS and its basic parameters. Moreover, the standard 802.11e and the question of QoS in the wireless networks are explained in a detailed way. The first part of the practical measurement is focused on the networks 802.11b/g/n. All main network statistics are measured when using the wireless stations and routers. The projection and implementation of the wireless network in the Opnet Modeler is included in the next part. The individual simulations WLAN in the Opnet Modeler are comparing the networks 802.11a/b/g. The analysis of the key QoS statistics is undertaken; the measured data are clearly displayed in the charts and schemes. The interpreted results are concluded and justified.

Řízení provozu na bezdrátových sítích / Traffic management in wireless networks

Jánoš, Radan January 2011 (has links)
The Master´s thesis „Traffic management in wireless networks“ discusses how to ensure Quality of Service in these networks. A term „traffic management“ is connected mainly with certain restrictions and prioritization of some services and traffics in network. The thesis contains an overview of the most used wireless technologies and describes the approach of these technologies to ensure QoS. Theoretical part of the thesis follows with the definition of general principles of traffic management in IP networks and provides an overview of network parameters used in evaluating the quality of different types of communications services. Practical part is focused on the most widely used wireless technology of standard 802.11 and also on implementation of remote administration system on a small SOHO routers. These systems allow the use of queueing disciplines to manage QoS. Designed and implemented HTB discipline is tested on a real traffic network model.

The Design and Application of a Simplified Guaranteed Service for the Internet

Ossipov, Evgueni January 2003 (has links)
Much effort today in the Internet research community isaimed at providing network services for applications that werenot under consideration when the Internet was originallydesigned. Nowadays the network has to support real-timecommunication services that allow clients to transportinformation with expectations on network performance in termsof loss rate, maximum end-to-end delay, and maximum delayjitter. Today there exist two quality of service (QoS)architecture for the Internet: The integrated services, whichis usually referred to as intserv, and the differentiatedservices referred to as diffserv. Although the intserv clearlydefines the quality levels for each of its three serviceclasses, the limited scalability of this QoS architecture is acontinuous topic for discussion among the researchers. Theanalysis of the tradeoffs of the two QoS architecturesmotivated us to design a new QoS architecture which will takethe strength of the existing approaches and will combine themin a simpler, efficient and more scalable manner. In this LicentiateThesis we introduce a guaranteed servicefor the Internet, which definition is similar to the one inintserv: The guaranteed service (GS) is a network servicerecommended for applications with firm requirements on qualityof end-to-end communication. The service should provide zeropacket loss in routers and tightly bound the end-to-end delay. The capacity for a GS connection should be explicitly reservedin every router along a path of a connection. However, incontrary to intserv the necessary quality level will beprovided without per-flow scheduling in the core routers, whichis the major drawback of the intserv architecture. We use thediffserv principle of dealing with aggregates in the corenetwork since this approach is proven to be scalable andefficient. The thesis considers two major building blocks of the newarchitecture: The packet scheduling and the signaling protocol. We have developed a special scheduling algorithm. Our formaland experimental analysis of its delay properties shows thatthe maximum end-to-end delay is acceptable for real-timecommunication. Moreover, our scheme provides a fair service tothe traffic of other service classes. In order to achieve thedesired QoS level, a sufficient amount of capacity should bereserved for the GS connections in all intermediate routersend-to-end. We have developed a both simple and robustsignaling protocol. The realization of our protocol shows thatrouters are able to process up to 700,000 signaling messagesper second without overloading the processor. / NR 20140805

Bluetooth QoS Scheduler

Jonsson, Björn January 2003 (has links)
Bluetooth is a low cost, short-range radio technology that enables electronic devices to communicate wirelessly via ad-hoc networks. Different kinds of applications may run over these networks, some of these applications with particular Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. One such application could for instance be an Audio application which need data frames to be delivered at regular interval to work properly. The communication over Bluetooth links is totally controlled by one of the participating nodes. Since this node controls the traffic and thereby controls the QoS within the network its communicating behaviour is of great importance for maintaining QoS reservations. A central part in maintaining QoS reservations is the scheduler, which prioritises between different tasks to be done such as which device that is allowed to transmit next. There is no standardised way to implement the Bluetooth scheduler. However, a Bluetooth scheduler should be able to handle QoS reservations, maintain fairness among the participating nodes, and utilise the available bandwidth efficiently. Furthermore a key requirement in Bluetooth is simplicity, therefore a Bluetooth scheduling algorithm should be of low complexity. This master thesis presents a new patented solution for an intra-piconet scheduling algorithm that is capable of maintaining QoS reservation, while being fair and also meet the low complexity requirement. This algorithm is presented in detail in the thesis and has been implemented in an ns2- based Bluetooth simulator. Simulations in this simulator are presented that verifies the scheduling algorithms functionality.
