A instituição familiar passa por profundas e rápidas mudanças, que, internamente, afetam os membros quanto aos papéis, à sexualidade, à fecundidade, à procriação, entre outros aspectos, alterando, as diversas formas de sociabilidade das relações familiares. Essas alterações provocam a busca de alternativas para a vida familiar, entre elas as separações conjugais e segundas uniões, que interferem na relação pais e filhos. Considerando que na realidade familiar em segunda união os filhos são um elemento importante na reorganização da estrutura e relações familiares, este estudo pretendeu dar continuidade à pesquisa anterior, buscando investigar a compreensão que filhos dão à segunda união conjugal dos seus pais, considerando sua história e contexto de vida. O estudo foi desenvolvido através de \"estudos de caso\" realizados com três famílias em segunda união, procurando visualizar elementos que possibilitassem discutir a situação dos filhos no novo contexto familiar, a partir das versões dos envolvidos: pais e filhos. O corpus de análise consistiu de entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas com pais e filhos, sendo utilizada a modalidade \"história de vida temática\" com os filhos. As entrevistas de cada caso foram analisadas uma a uma, e, na sequência, em seu conjunto, de tal forma a permitir uma descrição de cada caso; construiu-se ao final uma síntese com o apreendido no conjunto dos três casos. Este estudo indica que para os filhos a família continua sendo vista como um lugar favorável para o seu desenvolvimento e socialização primária, espaço adequado de recursos duráveis, que o modelo nuclear de família ainda é o desejado. Compreendeu-se que as situações \"separação\" e \"segunda união\" foram marcantes e sentidas como influenciadoras na vida dos filhos, como realidades estressoras quando foram associadas a conflitos conjugais e falta de comunicação clara dos seus pais sobre esses eventos. Sem a intenção de culpabilizar a família, no cenário traçado pelos filhos pode-se supor que precisaram de tempo, comunicação, entendimento e segurança do afeto parental, na elaboração, pelo menos inicial e parcial, das perdas e tristeza geradas com a separação e segunda união dos pais. E, por fim, apesar da situação vivida, na visão dos envolvidos a família continua sendo um lugar privilegiado de relações; a separação e segunda união, não sem tensões e conflitos, foram eventos aos quais foi possível uma adaptação a médio e longo prazo. / PORRECA, W. The family institution undergoes profound and rapid changes, which affect the roles of its members in the areas of sexuality, fertility, procreation, among others, and alter the diverse social trends of family relations. These alterations elicit a search for alternative life styles, possibly adding to the conjugal separations and second , which interfere with parent-child relationships. Considering that in the reality of second union families the children are an important element in the structural reorganization and family relations, this study intends to extend previous research by investigating the meaning that children bring to their parents\' second union in the light of their history and the context of life. The present study is based on the \"case studies\" of three families in their second union and incorporates anticipated elements that would facilitate the discussion of the children\'s situation in the new family context, from the point of view of those involved: parents and children. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with the parents and the children, using the modality, \'thematic history of life\', with the children. The data were analysed individually, sequentially, and in a way that permitted a holistic description of each case. Finally, centred on a crosschecked analysis, in a descriptive style, a final report of the three case studies was elaborated. The results of this study indicate that for the children, the family continues to be a favourable place for their development and primary socialization, and a privileged place of long lasting resources, where the nuclear model of the family continues to be desired. It was found that the events of the separation and second union of the parents had a significant impact on the lives of the children. Further, the relationship related conflicts and the lack of clear communication between the parents served as significant stressors for the children and resulted in the experience of loss and sadness.. Although the purpose of this study is not to fault the family, the findings support the children\'s need for time, communication, understanding and the security of parental affection. The lack of these resources contribute, at least initially, toward the loss and sadness the children experienced by their parents\' separation and second union. Finally, despite the family structure and dynamics, in the view of the participants, the family continues to be a privileged hub for relationships; the separation and second union, although with tension and conflict, were events which required both short and long term adaptations.
