Defesa : Curitiba, 29/03/2017 / Inclui referências : f. 59-63 / Resumo: O trabalho objetivou investigar a relação entre complexidade e crescimento e se esta é relevante para explicar a convergência de renda para os países da América Latina durante as décadas de 90 a 2000. A análise empírica envolveu a estimação de uma equação de crescimento com modelagem econométrica espacial onde o índice de complexidade é incorporado à matriz de pesos espaciais de forma que o diferencial de complexidade entre os países a justa a distância e, por consequência, a intensidade do efeito da vizinhança com outros países. Os resultados apontam a relevância da complexidade na dinâmica de crescimento da região, bem como apontam para a existência do processo de convergência de renda em diferentes regiões da América Latina. Palavras-chave:Complexidade.Estruturaprodutiva.AméricaLatina.Convergência. / Abstract: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between complexity and growth and whether this is relevant to explain the income convergence for the Latin American countries during the decades of 1990 to 2000. The empirical analysis involved the estimation of a grow the quation with spatial econometric modeling where the complexity index is incorporated into the spatial weights matrix so that the complexity differential between countries adjusts the distance and, consequently, the intensity of the neighborhood effect with other countries. The results point out to the relevance of complexity to grow thdynamics, as wellas to the existence of the process of income convergence in the region.
