A Capital Federal estreou em 1897 quando a cidade do Rio de Janeiro se adaptava ao novo regime político, às transformações provocadas pelo crescimento populacional e às mudanças sócio-econômicas do período. Já Guanabarina estreou em 1906, em meio às reformas empreendidas pelo prefeito Francisco Pereira Passos, reformas essas que não se limitaram às mudanças no espaço físico, mas estenderam-se à sociedade e cultura da então Capital Federal. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / The present work aims to study, upon the analysis of the theatrical plays A Capital Federal and Guanabarina from the writer, journalist and playwright Arthur Azevedo, the changes on Rio de Janeiro society in the early decades of the Republic. A Capital Federal debuted in 1897 when the city of Rio de Janeiro was adjusting itself to the new political regime, the changes brought by the population growth and the period ocioeconomic changes. Guanabarina debuted in 1906, amid the urban reforms led by Major Francisco Pereira Passos, which were not limited to changes in the physical space, but extended to the society and culture of the further Federal Capital.
