Siendo el turismo una nueva actividad productiva en las zonas rurales –y que se ha ido intensificando en los últimos años-, resulta de suma importancia analizar los efectos que este puede generar en las comunidades, las relaciones sociales y su composición. Esta investigación tiene por principal objetivo indagar sobre los cambios que trae la inserción e intensificación del turismo en el mundo rural y la influencia que ejerce sobre las identidades de género de hombres y mujeres. Para dicho fin, se realiza un estudio de caso con metodología cualitativa en las comunidades de Amaru y Quello Quello del departamento del Cusco y se descubre que las dinámicas vinculadas al turismo rural han influido en las funciones socialmente asignadas de hombres y mujeres en el ámbito familiar y el comunitario. En lo familiar, el turismo influye a través de la monetarización del trabajo doméstico, lo que origina el ingreso de las mujeres al mercado laboral remunerado asociado a un rol más productivo y una creciente participación de los varones en el rol reproductivo y el trabajo en el hogar. Con respecto a lo comunitario, las modificaciones en los roles se dan a partir de la participación de las mujeres en asociaciones turísticas y su vinculación con los socialmente valorados espacios urbanos. Estas modificaciones en los discursos y prácticas generan diversos cambios en la autopercepción de hombres y mujeres y en sus relaciones, lo cual influye en como constituyen sus masculinidades y feminidades. En este sentido, se busca analizar la magnitud del impacto del turismo en dicho aspecto y las posibilidades que abre en torno a la igualdad de género. / Given that tourism portraits as a new productive activity in rural areas - and which has been intensifying in recent years -, it is very important to analyze its effects on rural communities, social relations and their composition. This research’s main objective is to inquire about the changes that the insertion and intensification of tourism brings in the rural world and the influence that it exerts on the gender identities of men and women. To this end, a case study is carried out with qualitative methodology in the communities of Amaru and Quello Quello in Cusco province, Peru. The main finding is that the dynamics linked to rural tourism have influenced the socially assigned functions of men and women in the family environment and the community. On the one hand, tourism influences the families through the monetarization of domestic work, which causes the entry of women into the paid labor market liked to a more productive role and the growing participation of men in the reproductive role and domestic labor. With regard to the community, the changes in the roles are based on the participation of women in tourist associations and their link with the socially valued urban spaces. These modifications in discourses and practices generate various changes in the self-perception of men and women and in their relationships, which influences how they constitute their gender identities. Finally, this study seeks to analyze the magnitude of tourism’s impact on rural areas and the possibilities it generates regarding gender equality.
