São vinte e uma imagens do santo combatendo o dragão, distribuídas entre os séculos XIV e XXI. As obras têm funções diversas, foram produzidas em diferentes materiais, por meio de técnicas distintas. Há imagens ritualísticas, artísticas e de reprodução, portanto a pesquisa trabalha dentro de um campo expandido em relação ao entendimento de objeto de arte. Cada imagem está conectada com um universo de textos e imagens, por questões que envolvem sua produção, seu uso e sua transmissão, estabelecendo uma espécie de rede onde diferentes formas e sentidos se sobrepõem. A pesquisa se desenvolve sobre a comparação entre as imagens, procurando estabelecer conexões e compreender as sobreposições da forma e do sentido assumidos pelo santo. As características locais e temporais provocaram transformações em cada imagem de São Jorge, tanto nas imagens mentais, guardadas na memória, como nas imagens materiais. A investigação levou à reflexão sobre os mecanismos que operam essas transformações e as sobrevivências de formas, gestos e sentidos, e para isso se apoiou na obra de Georges Didi-Huberman e Aby Warburg. / This research examines the representation of Saint George and the dragon within the scope of art history, through the comparison images. Between the fourteenth and twenty-first centuries, there are twenty-one images of the saint battling the dragon. These pieces have diverse functions and were produced with different materials using distinct techniques. There are ritualistic, artistic and reproduced images; as such, this research works within a broad understanding of art objects. Each image, through its production, use and distribution, is connected to a universe of texts and other images, creating a network of different forms and overlapping senses. Through the comparison of images, this research seeks to establish connections and understand overlaps of form and sense embodied by the saint. The specific place and time of production brought about changes in each image of Saint George, in both mental images that are stored in memory and in material images. Drawing on the work of Georges Didi-Huberman and Aby Warburg, this study reflects on the mechanisms that drive such transformations and the persistence of forms, gestures and senses.
