The Vibrational Spectra of Some Oxalyl Halides

Hencher, John Lawrence 10 1900 (has links)
The infrared spectra of gaseous oxalyl fluoride, oxalyl chloride, and oxalyl chloride fluoride, and the Raman spectra of liquid oxalyl fluoride and liquid oxalyl chloride have been measured. A satisfactory analysis of these spectra has been obtained for all three molecules on the basis of the trans isomer. An I.B.M. 7040 digital computer has been programmed to calculate the fundamental frequencies, normal coordinates, Urey-Bradley force constants, and potential energy distributions in Urey-Bradley space. The two electronic band systems of oxalyl fluoride whose origins are located at 3082 Å and 3340 Å have been photographed in absorption under low resolution. These band systems have been assigned ¹Aᵤ←¹A_g and ³Aᵤ←¹A_g transitions respectively, and have been partially analyzed in terms of the vibrational energy levels associated with the combining electronic states. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Spectral-efficient design in modern wireless communications networks

Lu, Lu 21 September 2015 (has links)
We investigate spectral-efficient design and develop novel schemes to improve spectral efficiency of the modern wireless communications networks. Nowadays, more and more spectrum resources are required to support various high-data-rate applications while spectrum resources are limited. Moreover, static allocation and exclusive access in current spectrum assignment policy caused a lot of licensed spectrum bands to be underutilized. To deal with the problem, cognitive radio (CR) has been developed, which allows unlicensed/secondary users to transmit with licensed/primary users as long as the former ones do not generate intolerable interference to the latter ones. The coexistence of users and networks requires careful and dynamic planning to mitigate interference. Otherwise, the network performance will be severely undermined. We study both spectrum sensing and spectrum access techniques and propose several transmit schemes for different types of cognitive ratio networks, including spectrum overlay and spectrum underlay systems. The proposed algorithms can improve spectral efficiency of the networks efficiently and have potentials to be used in future wireless communications networks.

Patterns of cognitive functioning in young children with autism spectrum disorders

So, Wai-on, Ann, 蘇惠安 January 2014 (has links)
Previous research demonstrates an uneven pattern of cognitive abilities in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). This study examined whether this uneven pattern exists in preschool children. Participants include 24 children with high-functioning ASD and 28 typically developing (TD) children aged 4 to 6 with comparable average age and development level. No significant group difference in cognitive abilities was found between the ASD and TD group on the MANOVA. Patterns of cognitive functioning found include better performance on memory, weaker performance on language comprehension and expression, fine motor and speed of processing. Nonverbal and visual motor abilities were comparable between groups. Language expression was less impaired than language comprehension, and fine motor abilities were correlated with more cognitive abilities. / published_or_final_version / Educational Psychology / Master / Master of Social Sciences
