A Study of Connect Dynamic Data Source to Improve the Simulate Technique for the System DynamicsWu, Ting-Fang 25 July 2002 (has links)
System Dynamics Model follow the procedure for ¡§data collecting ¡÷ model design ¡÷ analysis ¡÷ modification¡¨ to analyze problems on a project by project base; however, this process is just a principle report and it cannot directly and continuously affect business decision. Furthermore, after the completion of each project, data often is locked in the file room and cannot be reused.
If simulation tools of System Dynamics allow user to connect the dynamics data source from the enterprise, potential benefits will be:
1. After analysis, with business data, model can be simulated time after time. This enable the repeating use of previous investment.
2. Decision makers can simulated condition of the future use the enterprise online data .
The main purpose of this research at probe interaction of System Dynamics Model and data source. Under above-mentioned structure. In the phase, we propose to add a ¡§Data Source¡¨ component in traditional structure of the System Dynamics model. The new component will connected model and data source, and keep the independent executed of the model.
And in addition to the design of the structure of the model, this research also according to the structure, design physical simulation tools ¡V we call the tool Maria. Maria can provide the function of building and simulating System Dynamics model like the traditional simulate tool, and connect model and dynamic data source. We use a simple model to prove the value of System Dynamics model and data source, and the future prospect of the structure.

Constructing Hydrodynamic and Water Quality Models in a Tidal River Using System Dynamics Simulation ToolsChen, Han-Hsin 11 September 2002 (has links)
Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to develop a hydrodynamic and water quality model using the system dynamic software-STELLA for the tidal river simulations. The model consists of three modules: the hydrodynamic module simulates the water level variation and the dynamic flow conditions in tidal rivers; the transport module simulates the temporal and spatial variations of dissolved matters; and water quality module simulates the bio-chemical reaction processes and the fates of the water quality variables. Water quality module was established from the conceptions of WASP6 with some modifications. Eight state variables are included in the water quality module, i.e. chlorophyll-a, organic phosphorus, inorganic phosphorus, organic nitrogen, ammonia, nitrate, carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand, and dissolved oxygen.
Most the hydrodynamic and water quality models, either imported or domestic developed, were coded in FORTRAN or other conventional programming languages. In this study, the system dynamics software STELLA has been used to construct the model. The study has overcome the difficulty of using STELLA to simulate space continuity and unsteady state condition of tidal river systems. By using STELLA, the environment model can easily be integrated with researches in social-economical studies.
The theories and the developments of the model are described in the thesis, the calibration and verification processes of the model using observation data of the Tamshui River system are also describe in detail. The model can be used not only to simulate and to predict the tidal flow, salinity, temperature, and water quality conditions in the Tamshui River, but also be used to evaluate the effects of various water quality purification methods and strategies. Therefore, this model can also assist policymakers to make better decisions on the balancing the economic developments with environmental protections.

Study for Dynamics of Inventory Policy and Inventory Cost - An example of XX companyHsu, Pi-Cheng 21 July 2003 (has links)
Abstract
In many business management policies, the inventory management and decision - makings have been the very important of the business administration. The object of the inventory management is satisfy the customer demand with minimum inventory cost; and the inventory policy is how to decide the quantity or timing of every order times, that can reach the object of the inventory management.
Today aims at the supervision strategy of the business inventory system, is still to make use of mathematics and statistics computational method, compute the most economic order quantity (EOQ), the best opportune moment of reorder point (ROP). However the item of the inventory cost that have got trade off relation, inventory service level setting that also have got trade off relation with the total inventory cost. The different inventory policy relates to the different stockholding cost assemble, all operators of the business practice is looking for the balance point between service and cost, the complex relation in this dynamic state, is not a general intuition thinking, simple computing criterion, can acquire among the best solution. So this paper makes use of the System Dynamics simulation tool that is good to solve of the complex problem tool, establish the System Dynamics (SD) model, and aim at the inventory policy, inventory cost, service level setting and out-of-stock strategy to do the system simulation analysis application.
Through the study of this paper, can induce following research results:
1. This paper create a System Dynamics (SD) model that can analyze the dynamic relationship between the inventory policy and inventory cost , this model includes the fundamental inventory policy, each related cost of inventory, evaluation the performance of the inventory policy etc.
2. The dynamic model that via this paper create, among the different inventory policy, explore the situation of change of the individual of inventory cost, and analyze the dynamic state of the inventory cost assemble, service level setting and businesses to operate the performance change.
3. Study of that none shortage cost and make use of the stockout strategy to reduce other inventory costs, under the different scenario of the sales, the different ABC class of the goods, applied different inventory cost combine and the setting strategy of the service level, do the dynamic state simulation analysis for business performance.
4. Study of the impact of the business, when the business at the service level set and stockout strategy usage is not appropriate.

Abstract
Industrial Economic and Environment are the main systems that construct the city we have in nowadays. The industrial economic moves the city and keeps it getting growth. The environment system lasts out the Urban Development timelessly and carries on the rubbish brought from the city activities. For a long time, the Taiwan government always aims for the high economic growth as its goal. However, the progress is much over the load and ability to the environment system. Thus it can aridly gets balance from the time of environment purification as well as the speed, quality & quantity which come from the process of economical movement. As the time goes and the situation of losing balance gets more worse. Later, it becomes the environment pollution and the water pollution of the river system is the most serious issue among those numerous ones. In nowadays, people analyses and solve the problem from the aspect of Environment Engineering as well as consider the interaction between the environment system & Urban Development, and the shortage thinking of integrated, constructive and macroscopic point of view.
The main purpose to do this research is to break away the old traditional mode. Such as studying the water pollution from the viewpoint of Environment Engineering, taking System Dynamics as the foundation, having the systematical macro-aspect, idealities of construction to the river pollution in Kao-Hsiung City, plans to industrial development, policies to the government finances, setting up dynamic models to the subsystems. Also, processing the strategic simulation with the ITHINK software which is used to simulate distinct prevention of the water pollution, and probe the time concern between the service of the urban sewerage system to sewers and pollution raised speed. To make an advanced step to this research, the Urban Growth Management Strategy Analysis and BOT Public & Private Joint Model are subsumed and imported to explore the influence of long-rang variation trend to the urban water pollution.
The result from the research shows that the outcomes of the sewer improvement is somewhat restricted by its lacked ability of purification, even though the improvement of sewer the service of the urban sewerage system can hold back the polluted water flow into the river surface. So, the purification speed of the river can hardly to catch up the discharge speed of polluted water. And even when the service of the urban sewerage system reaches to 100%, but the long-term accumulation has made the river hardly to reach to its standard load and ability. Thus it can be seen, the temporary solution is unable to solve the serious river pollution. The permanent cure is to integrate the Urban Growth Management Strategy. According to the simulation result, we find the water pollution in Kao-Hsiung City can be controlled and solved by combining the Urban Growth Management Strategy (Industrial reforming, levying polluted water fee), encouraging people to play a part to the sewer establishment, drain away the polluted water and renovating the river. With the result that it shows, it needs the government to study and draft prevention and rules with traditional aspect from environment engineering in the near future. More over than that, it needs the government to consider the ration between Urban Development and water pollution with integrated urban systematical viewpoint. Finally, the problem of water pollution can overall obtains the improvement effectively.

The Use of Genetic Algorithms for System Dynamics Model ConstructionLuo, Zheng-Hong 15 August 2003 (has links)
The study of system dynamics starts from model construction and simulation to understand and solve dynamical complicated problems. Traditionally approaches of modeling process depend on an expert¡¦s experiences and the trial & error procedure.
Chen¡¦s research proposes a transformation method that could map a System Dynamics Model (SDM) to a specially designed Partial Recurrent Network (PRN). Thus he could use the neural network training algorithm to assist model construction and policy design.
In this paper, we will introduce a Genetic Algorithm (GA) in the model building process, which encodes a PRN into a string and uses an evolution process to select a best solution. The algorithm not only improves the PRN training, but also generates more candidate models for consideration. Thus, it enhances the SDM-PRN transformation¡¦s usability.

A System Dynamic Approach to Digitalization Cable Television Marketing Strategy in TaiwanLin, Yu-Yuan 11 February 2008 (has links)
In recent years, information are digitalized with anything, beside internet, local cable companies are trying to upgrade their existing cables to provide many digital services to give their customers other than watching television. The boundary between traditional Internet Service Provider and local cable company slowly diminished. However, this new market require a huge investment with complex government regulation and face of many new competitors. Therefore it is believe a strong strategy tool will come in handy to help the existing company make better business judgments.
This study will intend to use Strategy Map, Balanced Score Card to simulate a dynamic review upon this market of digitalized television market, together will create a system dynamic model capable of evaluate many decisions the company will be making in the future.
1. The decision of this business is often under limited resource in different stages, therefore different strategy will be carefully apply to give their best outcome, this model will tend to analysis these situation and come up with best result.
2. Under government¡¦s new digital television regulation, pay per view policy start to merged and been accepted by the consumers. This model will show how this new trend of consumer habit tend to effect the company¡¦s market decision.
The study shows that:
1. Digital competition comes with many hidden factors, a robust entry to this market will result a failure on other segment which fail to follow up, this will eventually brings a chain reaction of total devastating outcome.
2. Human capital is another key factor of this subject, most scenario suggest company will be better taking this matter outside the film by using outsourcing.
3. The whole digitalized network require huge amount of capital, a shortage of capital pool forms a ¡§V¡¨ shape in the time curve, resulting a slowly drop of effeteness, this is adjustable by the different type of strategy company use in this matter.
4. Consumer¡¦s extra spending is the key income to the market, Company will need to provide better service to increase the amount of money customers willing to spend to the television service.
5. The model shows a ¡§pay per view¡¨ system will generate less income in the beginning, but better consumer satisfaction in the long run. Once the consumers are believed in the service, they will willing to try out and spend on other service.

Build Special Restaurant's Management Flight Simulator by System DynamicsHuang, Tzu-Wen 22 July 2008 (has links)
This research is an empirical study on the kind of special restaurants, aiming at understanding the growth strategy in food and beverage industry by means of system dynamics and building the management flight simulator for the research object. Based on several times of interviewing an Italian restaurant, the research model is built and composed of five major parts, which are ¡§Subsystem of customer and market,¡¨ ¡§Subsystem of employee,¡¨ ¡§Subsystem of capacity,¡¨ ¡§Subsystem of service quality and satisfaction¡¨ and ¡§Subsystem of finance.¡¨
Under the property of low repurchasing in this kind of restaurant, conclusions below are found after policy simulating:
1. Strategy of high-price with high-cost is suitable for this kind of restaurant¡¦s long-term management.
Though the cost is higher, high-price strategy results in high customer satisfaction. With high revenue and steady customers, the possibility of insufficiency of growth and investment decreases.
2. Even if a restaurant has high customer satisfaction and sufficient capital, growing too fast will fail it easily.
Growing too fast will fail a restaurant because of insolvency, especially the kind of special restaurant, of which the frequency of patronage is not as high as that of common restaurants. Therefore, quick expansion will bring out huge expenditure; thus, fails a restaurant even if there is high service quality and high satisfaction.
3. Advertisement makes future customers patronize earlier. Maintaining frequent customers is a better strategy.
Advertisement makes future customers patronize earlier, but its effect does not last as long as word-of-mouth effect.
4. Business environment is better when all competitors compete with each other by means of high-price strategy.
By adopting low-price strategy, a restaurant will draw lots of customers and need to expand itself. Quick expansion, however, reduces customer satisfaction and leads to fail eventually. Instead, managers who adopt high-price strategy run business better. As a result, business environment is better when market players adopt high-price strategy.

This article is about building a dynamic model of an Italian food restaurant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The model contains six sectors, including human resource sector, kitchen sector, quality sector, training sector, market sector and the financial sector. Depending on these six sectors we build a computer simulation model. With this computer simulation model can help people get better understanding of the real operational system and can have better insights of the restaurant management.
In this article, we found out that the restaurant manager needs to emphasize the quality and training of their employees. If the restaurant grows without enough qualified employees, the growth will meet its limit and has problems like quality decline, working overtime, high turnover rate, customer base decline and may cause the restaurant to close up.
In this article, we also found out that the training must both emphasize the professional training and ethic training and it is better to emphasize a little more on the ethic training. If the restaurant managers focus only on the professional training, it will bring serious problems. Since it has many conflicts during the work, the ethic training can help employees having more stable, social emotions for better customer service and build a trust and harmonious working atmosphere. Otherwise, the conflicts between the coworkers may cause service delay, service mistakes, increasing cost and high turnover rate. All these problems will affect the operation of the restaurant management in long term.
In this article, the dynamic model contains many soft variables of the restaurant management. It can provide the learner of dynamic model building to learn about the soft variables modeling.

This research tries to observe an advertizing printing company¡¦s business model and understand the interaction between different policies implemented on the company by System Dynamics. Futhermore, building Management Flight Simulatior can let one simulate the situation and policies to find the effective policies.
After the simulation and the evaluation, we find that if the company only pays attention to marketing but didn¡¦t make efforts on the employees¡¦ training, it will block the company¡¦s growth, and the manager always ignored this problem. However, if we only make efforts on training the employees or hiring new employees, it will be just a waste of money in the long run. Therefore, the manager should enlarge his thinking boundary, and considerate not only marketing but training, and even many other policies, and the most important is their interaction, at appropriate time.
