  • The Global ETD Search service is a free service for researchers to find electronic theses and dissertations. This service is provided by the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations.
Our metadata is collected from universities around the world. If you manage a university/consortium/country archive and want to be added, details can be found on the NDLTD website.

The distribution of the extreme Mahalanobis' distnace from the sample mean

Cuttle, Yvonne Germaine Marie Ghislaine January 1956 (has links)
The problem of classification in multivariate analysis is considered. The distribution of the extreme Mahalanobis’ distance from the sample mean has been derived for a special case of the bivariate problem, and for this special case the cumulative distribution has been partially tabulated. The characteristic function of the joint distribution of the Mahalanobis’ distances from the sample mean has also been derived. A brief discussion of the one-dimensional problem and its solution has been included. / Science, Faculty of / Mathematics, Department of / Graduate

Random Sampling

Booker, Aaron Hicks 01 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to show the use of random sampling in solving certain mathematical problems. The origin of random numbers to be used in sampling is discussed and methods of sampling from known distributions are then given together with an indication that the sampling procedures are unbiased.

A survey of two sampling inspection methods

Unknown Date (has links)
This paper intends to survey two sampling inspection methods, single sampling and double sampling, which are commonly used in industry. The explanation and development of these methods assumes an elementary knowledge of probability theory. In addition, the theory of sampling as developed in this paper requires that inspection testing be done by a non-destructive method and that defective items found in testing be replaced by non-defective items. Concluding the paper is an example which illustrates the application and relative merits of the sampling plans described herein. / Advisor: John L. Bagg, Professor Directing Paper. / Typescript. / "August, 1957." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science." / Includes bibliographical references (leaf 35).
