Title of the thesis: Comparison of basic abilities of children of elementary school age attending athletics and modern pentathlon squad Student: Bc. Martin Chyba Supervisor: PhDr. Aleš Kaplan, PhD. Consultant: PhDr. Pavel Hráský, Ph.D. Aims of the thesis: To compare the level of basic ability in selected motor tests at athletes and modern pentathletes of the elementary school age. Methodology: Performance of athletes and modern pentathletes of elementary school age were compared in the following general tests: 12-minute run, one- way jump, stability tests, tests jump. At the same time, the body composition was monitored throughout the test group. Conclusions: Testing of base performance showed that there are no major differences between athletes and modern pentathletes. Despite slightly better average results of athletes, we can only register a statistically significant variance in "one-way jump" where athletes significantly outperformed pentathletes. Another variance was recorded in stability tests, namely standing on the right feet but only within boys category. Even in this case athletes achieved better results. The reason being may be the higher calendar and sports age of athletes. Another difference has shown in comparison of training units within a weekly training cycle. Athletes normally...

M.Ed. (Psychology of Education) / It appears that not much research has been done in the field regarding separation anxiety suffered by school beginners. The current political developments towards a fair multicultural education will cause a far greater (increased) emergence of this phenomenon as schools are now confronted with a mixture of different cultures and creeds with (overly concerned parents).while separation anxiety is manifested in the young school beginners. Due to this increased exposure and subsequent increased child anxiety. this study is designed to identify the root causes of this anxiety. and provide guidelines for an education programme for parents and teachers to identify and counteract this problem. The investigation into the causes and characteristics of separation anxiety was undertaken by means of studying literature. existing case studies and material related to the subject matter. Insight derived from practical teaching experience and the literature available was so adapted and refined to set guidelines and identify characteristics for a programme that would assist the parents and teachers to identify and through corrective action overcome and / or eliminate this problem...

Komunikace bilingvních dětí mladšího školního věku žijících v Severním Porýní-Vestfálsku / Communication of Bilingual Children of Younger School Age Living in North Rhine-WestphaliaBoháčová, Gabriela January 2017 (has links)
The thesis deals with communication of bilingual Czech-German families in North Rhine- Westphalia. We focused mainly on the language of primary school children. The work contains two sections - a theoretical and a practical section. In the first, theoretical part of the work we tried to describe (on the based on literature) the issue of bilingualism, bilingual education and language acquisition. We also discussed the development, more specifically of primary-aged children. Attention in this section is also drawn to the region of North Rhine- Westphalia, where our research was realized. The practical part of the thesis focusses on the qualitative research of communication in multilingual families. We tried to create language biographies of individual families, based on interviews with Czech-speaking parents. Using a questionnaire, we investigated the attitudes of German-speaking parents to bilingual education. We also recorded the linguistic performances of children, which were then analyzed. Our goal was to create the most complete overview of the researched families. Key words language acquisition, bilingualism, younger school age, linguistic biography

Examining the Preliminary Validity of a Dynamic Assessment of Narrative Language in Mandarin ChineseCheung, Lok Yee Sarah 14 June 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to examine the preliminary validity of a newly developed dynamic assessment of narrative language in Mandarin Chinese. Two studies are reported in this thesis. Study 1 included 31 second grade participants and Study 2 included 43 first grade participants. All participants were enrolled in a Chinese immersion program in an elementary school in Utah. A dynamic assessment of narrative language was administered to each participant in Mandarin Chinese. A teacher rating was also included in Study 1. Results indicated that the dynamic assessment investigated in this thesis demonstrated some similar characteristics with other valid dynamic assessments of narrative language. As hypothesized, participants in Study 1 made gains from pretest to posttest after the teaching phase. Gain score from pretest to posttest and static teacher rating did not significantly correlate with modifiability rating. Modifiability rating and posttest score were significantly correlated in both studies. There is also no significant group difference between the participants in Study 1 and Study 2 on modifiability rating. These results are promising. However, more research will need to be conducted to further examine the dynamic assessment due to the limitations of the current studies.

Vliv rozšířené tělesné výchovy u dětí mladšího školního věku / Effect of enhanced physical education for school age childrenDrdošová, Lenka January 2021 (has links)
Title: Effect of extended physical education in children under school age. Objective: The project aims to find out whether pupils with extended physical education will achieve better results in functional muscle tests than children with standard two-hour physical education lessons per week. Methods: This is a pilot study where the quantitative nature of the research based on a comparison of the results of six functional muscle tests on shortened muscle groups predominates. Pupils were divided into two groups according to the number of physical education hours per week. Pearson's chi-square test was used to determine the level of muscle shortening, the significance level was set at α <0.05. Results: In the individual tests of functional muscle tests, pupils with three hours of physical education per week were better in most cases. Statistical analysis of the prevalence of individual types of muscle group weakness revealed a significantly better result (p ˂ 0.05) in three functional muscle tests. Specifically in postural stereotype according to Mathias, Thomayer exam and lateral flexion exam by pupils with extended TV. Key words: Muscular imbalance, younger school age, extended physical education.

We compared groups of girls who were monitored from 6th to 9th grade. It was a group of pupils with an artistic focus and a group of pupils from a regular class. Methods: The diploma thesis has the character of action research. The methods of testing, questioning and comparison are applied in the diploma thesis. The research was carried out at Na Líše Elementary School over a period of four years. . Results: The girls with the artistic focus have less motivation to move both inside and outside the school. Spatiotemporal Analysis of the COVID-19 Pandemic in School-age Children (5-18 years) in Washington and Johnson County, TNOlawuyi, Omobolaji, Luffman, Ingrid E 07 April 2022 (has links)
Abstract
COVID-19, as named by the World Health Organization, is a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome, coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2). This study is a spatiotemporal analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic in school-age children (5-18 years) in Washington and Johnson County, Tennessee and the possible relationship between public policies and the rate of infection. The first cases in Tennessee were documented in March 2020, with data being collected since that time. Daily data are accessible on the Tennessee Health Department COVID-19 dashboard with the number of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths grouped by county in ages 5-11 years and 12-18 years. As this disease spread, government officials mandated different policies: mask mandates, stay at home, restrictions of public gatherings, and school closure, but many schools eventually allowed physical attendance. Emerging spatiotemporal hotspots are analyzed to identify the spatial clustering patterns of hot and cold spots with statistical significance using the Moran I statistical model in ArcGIS. The Change point detection tool in ArcGIS makes inferences about significant changes in trends over time; it was used to identify when significant changes occur. This is an ongoing project that will inform the approach I will adopt for my thesis, statistical tools will be used to determine the correlation between the time the change occurred and the implementation of policies, with an estimated 14-day lag time. Finally, the findings from both age groups will be compared. This study aims to help policymakers make better-informed decisions when responding to future pandemics.
