Jasmine's Secret: Narrative Cantata for Five Solo Voices, Narrator, and Orchestra

Alley, Candace P. 12 1900 (has links)
Since Jasmine's Secret contains elements of cantata and follows a dramatic story or program, the work may be classified as a narrative or dramatic story or program, the work may be classified as a narrative or dramatic cantata employing five solo voices, narrator and orchestra. This work attempts a revival of these two genres as a combined entity due to the decreased popularity of both cantata and programmatic music in the 20th century.

Capriccio: A Composition for Symphonic Orchestra

Walczyk, Kevin, 1964- 08 1900 (has links)
A body of works titled 'capriccio' have existed for over four hundred years. Most of these works are characterized by a composers abandonment of expected stylistic norms. Guided only by the fanciful whim of the composer, a capriccio exhibits extreme contrasts in the various parameters of a musical composition including melody, harmony, counterpoint, mood and texture. The composition embedded in these compositional parameters as its point of departure and development.

Aerial acrobatics

Badgett, Karol Ann 10 October 2012 (has links)
Aerial Acrobatics is a musical composition for full orchestra consisting of three movements entitled: "Spinning," "Arabesques," and "Scherzo for Trapeze." The material is derived from the composer's experience as a dance accompanist and has been developed into a musical work intended to evoke images of dance movement in many genres including modern dance, ballet, and acrobatics. Aerial Acrobatics is intended for concert performance but suggests to the audience imaginary choreography involving a circus of performing artists vying for the center ring.

Symphony number 1 for concert band

Lato, John William, 1979- 17 October 2012 (has links)
Symphony Number 1 for Concert Band is a musical composition for symphonic band. The work calls for an ensemble of large forces in order to explore a variety of musical textures and techniques within traditional formal design. Formally the work is in three independent movements. Each movement is built upon a relatively traditional form or key scheme. The first movement is the most complex, a modified rounded binary form with dominant -- tonic relationships. The second is a passacaglia, and the third is a highly rhythmic sonata rondo. A variety of instrumental textures are explored throughout the work. Climactic sections call for large tuttis and ensemble unisons. Sections for small groups balance these larger statements. Soloists drawn from the ensemble are frequently called for, with the third movement featuring an extended duet for soprano and alto saxophone. Traditional tonal harmonic structures are melded with harmonies driven by polytonal chromaticism in a melodic context. Polytonal chromaticism is a formative element of the work, appearing throughout each movement and used to provide structure and dramatic tension at all levels within the composition. / text
