Non linear stress analysis of composite end cap connected to composite skeletal systems

Romhi, Ayman January 1990 (has links)
This study investigated the bonding technique for the joining together of tubular sections which are under axial loading. In particular the yielding of polymers was studied and the criterion which was eventually used in the analyses was a modification of the Von Mises one. The Paraboloidal criterion accommodates differences in tensile and compressive yield strengths and accounts for any dependence of yielding on the hydrostatic component of the applied stress state. The yielding behaviour of the thin layer of the adhesive epoxy resin was analysed and it has been shown that the prediction of the adhesive strength is affected by the progress of the yield. Comparisons between the Paraboloidal and the Von Mises yield criteria have also been applied to a modified tubular joint involving threads within the bonded region. It is suggested that the prediction of the stresses at yield, using the modified criterion have a greater credibility compared with those of the Von Mises. The paraboloidal yield criterion has been implemented correctly in a standard finite element package ABAQUS. The author has made use of the "user subroutine" facility which allows a user of ABAQUS to write a sub-program defining the material constitutive relations to be used in an analysis.

A comparative study of weaving sections in TRANSIMS and Highway Capacity Manual

Jillella, Srinivas 06 July 2001 (has links)
Weaving is defined as the crossing of two or more traffic streams traveling in the same direction along a significant length of the highway without the aid of traffic control devices. The traditional methods used for the design and operational analysis of a highway is the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM). These traditional methods in the manual use road geometry and traffic volumes as input and provide an estimate of the speed as an output. TRANSIMS is a new computer simulation package in transportation that can be used as an analysis as well as a planning tool. The Microsimulator in TRANSIMS deals with the actual simulation of traffic on roadways. The intent of this research is to evaluate TRANSIMS Microsimulator and compare it with the traditional Highway Capacity Manual in modeling the weaving sections on a freeway and make recommendations. This research will also compare the modeling strategy and provide analysis of the output. / Master of Science

L- and M-Shell X-Ray Production Cross Sections of Neodymium Gadolinium, Holmium, Ytterbium, Gold and Lead by 25-MeV Carbon and 32-MeV Oxygen Ions

Andrews, Mike C., 1949- 08 1900 (has links)
L- and M-shell x-ray production cross sections have been measured for thin solid targets of neodymium, gadolinium, holmium, ytterbium, gold, and lead by 25 MeV 12/6C^q+ (q=4,5,6) and by 32 MeV 16/8O^q+ (q=5,7,8). The cross sections were determined from measurements made with thin targets (< 2.5 μg/cm2). For projectiles with one or two K-shell vacancies, the target x-ray production cross sections were found to be enhanced over those for projectiles without a K-shell vacancy. The sum of direct ionization to the continuum (DI) plus electron capture (EC) to the L, M, N... shells and EC to the K-shell of the projectile have been extracted from the data. The results are compared to the predictions of first Born theories, i.e., plane wave Born approximation for DI and Oppenheimer-Brinkman-Kramers formula of Nikolaev for EC and to the ECPSSR approach that accounts for Energy loss and Coulomb deflection of the projectile as well as for Relativistic and Perturbed Stationary States of inner shell electrons.
